likefireworks.Ipractisedwhileheinstructedandcriticized.IplayedtillIhadsharppaininmy

fingertips.Byageseven,?wascalledachildgenius.

Then,at11,1quit.Heartbroken,myfatherdistancedhimself.Guiltily,Ifollowedsuit.Soonwe

spokeonlywhennecessary.Ourrelationshipdidn,trebounduntil,inmyearly20s,Ifoundmyself

pulledbacktoguitar.

WhenIwasinmyearly30s,hegotsick.Beforehediedafewyearslater,myfathertoldme

therewerealmostnofemaleflamencoguitaristsintheworld.IfIkeptpractising,Icouldbeoneof

thefirst.Ipromised,andheleftmehisguitar.Butafterhedied,Icouldn,tbeartoplayit.He,dspent

somuchtimewithhisarmsaroundthatinstrument,anditseemedanextensionofhisownbody.

Holdingitgavemygriefanunbearabletangibility(可觸知).Sofor13yearsitsatmostlyuntouched,

comingoutonlywhenmysonEllisbeggedtoseeit.Hewascarefulwithhisgrandfather's

instrumentinawaythatmademewanttopassitdowntohim-boththeguitarandthemusic.

Problemwas,Icouldn,treallyplayanymore.

Now,Antoniaissittingwithmeinherlivingroom,teachingmepatiently.Ihavebeenherefor

onlytwodays,andalreadymyfingershurt.It,sasharppain,likewhenafallen-asleeplimb(肢體)
