Advisory

Board

engages

in

discussion

via

CoSN’s

online

forum,

synchronous

virtual

calls

via

Zoom,

and

alsoparticipates

in

two

surveys

toselect

the

top

themes

in

each

category

that

are

transforming

teaching

and

learning.This

year,the

Advisory

Board’s

work

took

place

overapproximately

discussion.

the

including

one

new

Hurdle

and

one

new

Accelerator.STEP

are

all

part

is

allowing

toinnovate

as

weexplore

K-12

education

ofthe

future.

And

while

Gen

AI

may

provide

additional

power,educators

and

technologists

remain

the

ones

who

are

the

drivers

ofinnovation.“I

Gen

AI

as

another

tool

in

the

classroom

weshould

use,

such

as

the

calculator

and

other

digital

applications.These

tools

did

not

necessarily

increase/decrease

the

number

ofteachers;

however,they

give

students

directaccess

totools

and

fast

feedback.

can

learning

and

hopefully,

engage

the

year

RetainingEducators

and

IT

Professionals

has

made

it

intotheTop

Hurdles

(obstacles)on

our

annual

list.

And

whileeducators

are

feeling

more

satisfied

at

work

than2022’s

all-timelow,

about

twice

as

manyteachersand

principals

in

a

RANDCorpsurvey

reportedexperiencing

frequent

job-related

stress

comparedtothe

general

population

ofworking

adults.our

staff.”Launched

in

2023,the

district’s

latestcampaign,

Growing

Stronger

Together,is

focused

onliving

out

the

district’s

mission

statement:

To

inspireand

nurture

every

student...one

opportunity

at

a

time.“We

haveextended

the

statement

toinclude

inspiringand

nurturing

every

staff

member,

as

well,”

said

May-Vollmar.“We

haveseen

a

huge

growth

in

staff

morale,and

webelieve

this

will

translate

toattracting

andretaining

educators

and

IT

professionals.

We

know

thatwecan't

always

throw

money

at

issues,

but

wecanalways

create

a

work

environment

that

draws

people

inand

makes

them

want

to

stay.”In

addition

towork

stress

hindering

educators

fromstaying

in

the

field,

Gen

Z

is

less

interested

in

becomingteachers

than

in

previous

years.

DistrictAdministrationreported

in

September2023that

there

is

a

sharp

dropin

students

leaving

college

with

a

teaching

degree

—from

about

192,700

in

2013

to159,000

last

schoolyear.CoSN
