thenextyears,hebecameoneofthestaffJsmostvaluedcontributors.
Buthewasalsoamystery.Inspiteofmanyinvitations,hewouldalwaysdecline
tovisitOxford.Soin1897,MurrayfinallydecidedtotraveltoCrowthornehimself.
Whenhearrived,hefoundMinorlockedinabook-linedcellattheBroadmoorAsylum
fortheCriminallyinsane.
MurrayandMinorbecamefriends,sharingtheirloveofwords.Minorcontinued
contributingtothedictionary,sendinginmorethan10,000submissionsin20years.
MurraycontinuedtovisitMinorregularly,sometimestakingwalkswithhimaround
theasylumgrounds.
In1910,MinorleftBroadmoorforanasyluminhisnativeAmerica.Murraywas
attheporttowavegoodbyetohisremarkablefriend.
Minordiedin1920,sevenyearsbeforethefirsteditionoftheOxfordEnglish
