whichwerebroughttothesurfaceprovedtobeofgreatinterest.Fromaheavygun
thatwasraised,thecaptainrealizedthattheshipmusthavebeenacruiser.In
anotherchest,whichcontainedthebelongingsofaship'sofficer,therewasan
unfinishedletterwhichhadbeenwrittenonMarch14thz1943.Thecaptainlearnt
fromtheletterthatthenameofthelostshipwastheKaren.Themostvaluablefind
ofallwastheship'slogbook,partsofwhichitwasstillpossibletoread.Fromthis
thecaptainwasabletopiecetogetheralltheinformationthathadcometolight.The
KarenhadbeensailinginaconvoytoRussiawhenshewastorpedoedbyanenemy
submarine.ThiswaslaterconfirmedbyanavalofficialattheMinistryofDefence
aftertheElkorhadreturnedhome.Alltheitemsthatwerefoundweresenttothe
WarMuseum.
