Test 3Section A1-5 BACAC6-10 ADDCC11-15 ACBDDSection B16-20 BADAB21-25 CBDCDSection CPolice in London have warned people to remain cautious following the bomb attacks during Thursday mornings rush hour on the citys transport system. The attacks are (26) believed to have killed at least fifty people and injured around seven hundred more. (27) Speaking on television just hours after the attacks, the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, promised an (28) intense investigation by the police and security services to track down those (29) responsible. Mr. Blair also said he knew those behind the attacks had acted in the name of Islam but he (30) stressed that the overwhelming majority of Muslims abhorred (憎恨) the (31) bombings as much as he did. The first attack came just before nine in the morning on a train close to the main station in the citys financial (32) district; minutes later the worst incident occurred: a bomb (33) exploded in a deep underground line, killing more than twenty people. (34) A third bomb on another underground train tore a hole through a tunnel wall, throwing debris onto a nearby track and involving a further two trains. The fourth explosion ripped the roof off a bus. (35) The attacks were timed to cause maximum disruption during the morning rush hour, and (36) with the underground network still shut down the citys workers are faced with a long walk home. Test 8Section A1-5 DDCCA6-10 CBDAB11-15ABACCSection B16-20 DADAB21-25 DCCABSection CThe former football star, Diego Maradona, has admitted publicly for the first time that he used his hand to (26) score one of the most controversial goals in the history of the international game. There has long been (27) intense football rivalry between Argentina and England, but when the two teams met in the (28) quarter finals of the 1986 World Cup, the disputed goal became one of the most famous in the world. (29) Challenging the England goalkeeper for the ball, the short and stocky Maradona raised his left arm into the air to (30) fist the ball into the net. Television pictures and photographs (31) released later, showed the goal to be illegal. Maradona claimed it was “the Hand of God” which had guided the ball, not his own. Argentina went on to win 2-1 and (32) eventually lift the World Cup. Since then the incident has irked English supporters, but (33) given satisfaction to Argentine fans. (34) Nineteen years later, speaking on his own television show, Maradona has finally admitted a truth which everyone knew. Few will be angered(35) his second goal against England in the same match was one of the finest individual efforts in World Cup history. The defeated England coach, Bobby Robson, (36) described it as a miracle, which following “the Hand-of-God” goal seems supremely apt. Personal finance is already part of the national curriculum in England and Wales while Scotland and North Ireland are developing their own (26) strategies. But according to the Personal Finance Education Group (PFEG), the organization behind todays move, teachers dont always get the help they need. Schools like Broadwater in Surrey already use examples of (27) dealing with money in lessons like mathematics. But unlike many other schools, its taking things a (28) stage further. Its teacher devised a course where people set up their own business, part of that (29) involved money management. By 2005, its hoped that (30) 128,000 school children will have had access to personal finance lessons, something that would go down well with parents. Learning about money is already part of the timetable for some of the pupils at this school. But where personal finance is taught, the problem for teachers can be getting hold of the (31) right material. The moment students leave school, they have to face the (32) prospect of dealing with complicated financial forms, as well as things like credit and (33) budgeting. The group leader at PFEG said, “(34) What we are trying to do is to make it easier for teachers. We want them to be able to put personal finance education examples into all different parts of their subject areas. (35) It could be citizenship; it could be the personal and social health education. Some teachers might find it useful in their IT lessons, whereas other teachers (36) might find it useful to explore the moral dimensions of the religious education.”Test 12Section A1-5 BBACB6-10 BDCDD11-15 BDACCSection B16-20 CADCA21-25 BCDBASection CHong Kong Disneyland is set to open on September 12. But the theme park has already suffered bad publicity and it (26) ultimately had to reverse course on its plan to serve sharks fin soup. After (27) waging a spirited campaign against the Walt Disney Company, environmentalists welcomed the Disneylands announcement that it will not serve the Chinese (28) delicacy, sharks fin soup. Sharks fin soup is a traditional dish at Chinese banquets and weddings. While many enjoy it for its taste and reputed healthful (29) properties, it is most popular as a sign of status. Because it is expensive and requires intensive preparation, many Chinese (30) associate it with wealth and power.Disney came under fire when it said it would serve the dish at two of the (31) attractions hotels. Green Peace, the international environmental organization, says the company was neglecting its (32) publicized commitment to protecting endangered species. Disney said that although it takes environmental stewardship seriously, it wanted to balance those concerns with cultural (33) sensitivity to Chinese customs. But, the environmentalists say that (34) their argument does not justify over-fishing shark populations for what they call a vanity dish. We have to bear in mind that times change and that if a particular habit or custom is unsustainable, we should get rid of it. (35) Central to this conflict between culture, commerce and conservation is the decline of shark populations around the globe. Many scientists say (36) the number of sharks worldwide has dropped by half over the past 15 years, and some species may have declined by more than 70 percent. Market researchers at comScore Networks estimate online (29) spending last year at 117,000 million dollars. That was for goods and travel services. The person who started Amazon, Jeffrey Bezos, remains its leader. In the 1990s he urged (30) employees to help Amazon “get big fast.” Yet Amazon invested in many similar businesses that (31) failed.Amazon lost plenty of money and did not make a profit until 2003.Its most recent profit and (32) earnings report, released last week, was better than many market watchers had expected.Today people can buy not just books and music but also many other products through Amazon. It competes with eBay, which celebrates its tenth birthday in (33) September. EBay calls itself “the worlds online marketplace.”(34) It does not sell anything; instead, it provides a way for others to sell goods and services.(35) People who want to buy something make competing offers through online auctions.EBay has grown to include several other businesses, including PayPal, a company that processes online payments. As online sellers grew, traditional stores saw the future.Today, (36) stores from the smallest to the biggest sell on the Internet and these include the biggest of all, Wal-Mart. The Ministry of Health has announced Wednesday the two (27) victims, first reported last month, were a 10-year-old girl in the southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and a 35-year-old man in eastern Jiangxi Province. They had died on December 16th and 30th (28) respectively after all medical treatment measures failed. A (29) spokesman for the Ministry says the current bird flu situation is “not optimistic”, and is calling on people to remain (30) vigilant.“Although there
