This contrast is beginning to 21 your 6-year-old son. You are worried that he will want to live 22 they do, and wonder if you should move.Sometimes big 23 money, joyful birthday parties, special playrooms and super-big houses tell you that your neighbors probably have more money than you do, and that theyre not as 24 as you are with money, but you may find that they cook and dig in the garden with their children just as often as you do, talk with them as freely and 25 bed-time stories to them every night.Or you may find that some of these parents stay in one 26 of their big house while their child plays by himself, way off in a wing of his own. In that unfortunate 27 , he is basically growing up alone without being looked after 28 , but this can happen to a child who lives in a normal-size house, too, if he has a TV, a computer and a few video games in his room. Even the most 29 parent doesnt walk in and out of it to see what show her child is watching, what 30 site he has found and if hes still playing that video game.Too much 31 screen then may lead to a certain loss of innocence (天真), but mostly this child will lose the 32 of unity and satisfaction that comes from being in a family.A neighborhood should 33 provide you with a sense of unity and satisfaction, and if it doesnt, you might decide to 34 . Dont judge your neighborhood too harshly (嚴(yán)厲地), 35 . There are some things that are right with almost any neighborhood and some things that are 36 with the best of themlike those super-big houses. The wealth of their ownersand the 37 they throw money aroundmay make your son feel 38 for himself, unless you help him understand that you and his dad save some of the money, give some to people who dont have enough and use the 39 to pay for whatever the family needs.Children wantshould be provided with 40 when their parents dont give them what they want.21.A. botherB. sufferC. pressD. worry22.A. whenB. whereC. asD. what23.A. prizeB. pocketC. rewardD. luck24.A. contentB. patientC. freeD. careful25.A. speakB. readC. referD. mention26.A. beakB. clawC. wingD. neck27.A. caseB. occasionC. mannerD. sense28.A. correctlyB. actuallyC. speciallyD. properly29.A. caringB. kindC. cautiousD. close30.A. buildingB. webC. holidayD. school31.A. unaffectedB. undefendedC. uncontrolledD. unharmed32.A. thoughtB. mindC. conceptD. sense33.A. yetB. alsoC. eitherD. already34.A. fightB. quarrelC. moveD. divorce35.A. thereforeB. besidesC. insteadD. though36.A. wrongB. falseC. untrueD. fake37.A. mannerB. meansC. methodD. way38.A. ashamedB. sorryC. upsetD. anxious39.A. halfB. otherC. restD. part40.A. excusesB. examplesC. explanationsD. causes三、閱讀理解。(共15小題,計(jì)30分)AIt seems that everything about pop king Jay Chou is considered “cool”. The way that he speaks unclearly, the way he practices the two-fold sticks, and the way he plays the piano in that retroverted way (反手). Now, hes displaying another type of coolnessthe basketball moves he displays in his latest film Kungfu Dunk. It will hit cinemas on Spring Festival Eve, February 6. He says that he cares more about showing his moves rather than scoring points. In the film, he plays an orphan (孤兒) expelled (開除) from a kungfu school. By chance, he gets admitted into a university basketball team. With his kungfu skills, he excels at slam-dunking. Jay enjoys challenging himself and he had to learn new techniques for the film. In one scene, he had to use his feet to hang on to the hoop. In another, he had to stand on top of the hoop. “I hope to challenge Yao Ming in person,” he said. “Im shorter than him but Im more flexible.” More attention to films doesnt mean he will give up music. He has released his latest album Jay Chou on the Run in November. The title song Cowboy is Busy carries a touch of old rural America. He tries Western country music, and takes on the appearance of a tough cowboy with a strong sense of justice. “People said my music is conservative, so I made a song with a brand new style. But I still have my own accent,” he said.41. What makes people consider Jay Chou so “cool”?A. His speaking so clearly.B. His way of playing the piano.C. His movie called Kungfu Dunk.D. A guide book.CWouldnt it be fascinating if you could go back in time to see and perhaps change the past? You could explore questions like “If I can change a small detail of this worldsay, move a grain of sand a littlewhat impact will it have on the future?” Perhaps this accounts for the appeal of the new time travel drama, Palace, in which Qingchuan, a simple, kind-hearted girl from the 21st century, goes back in time to the 1700s, to the age of Qing Dynasty emperor Kangxi. It is setting records for viewing figures. It is not the first time we have seen such a tale on the screen, but Palace is a story with a difference. Qingchuans wit and knowledge of the future give the show a light-hearted feel. Tai Lunyue, a 16-year-old from Nanjing Foreign Language school, is a die-hard fan of the show. What she likes most is how Qingchuan lands right in the middle of an imperial conspiracy (宮廷陰謀)a fierce battle among princes for the throne. The love triangle of Qingchuan and the two princes, Yinzhen and Yinsi, two of the Emperors sons, is another reason the drama is drawing viewers: “Regardless of the setting, Palace, in essence (本質(zhì)), is a love story,” commented the Qilu Evening News. “Relationships in the modern world are increasingly about material concerns, but the love story of Palace is of a much purer variety.” Chen Haocheng, a 17-year-old at Shanghai Dajing High School, echoes (響應(yīng)) this view. “Qingchuan and Yinsi really love each other. This is the reason people like the story,” he said. But the high ratings havent protected Palace against heavy criticism for its historical inaccuracy. It has also been accused of borrowing aspects of other popular TV series. Young people dont seem to care. Liu Sibin, 16, from No 8 High School in Hefei, Anhui Province, commented on the historical “errors”: “Its a fictionevery viewer knows thisso what does it matter?” She added: “I just want to enjoy watching it. It helps me relax after my homework.”48. Which sentence can NOT describe the reason for the popularity of Palace among people?A. Palace is a story with a difference in which Qingchuans wit and knowledge of the future give the show a light-hearted feel. B. The story shows the love triangle of Qingchuan and the two princes, Yinzhen and Yinsi, two of the Emperors sons.C. The story borrows many aspects of other popular TV series.D. People watching Palace cant help wondering if they could go back in time to see and perhaps change the past.49. What is the authors attitude in the passage?A. Subjective.B. Objective.C. Optimistic.D. Critical.50. What is Palace criticized for?A. Inaccurate history. B. The love triangle.C. Time travel fiction. D. Its setting and plot.51. Which sentence is NOT true according to this passage?A. Palace appeals to a lot of viewers, especially teenagers.B. Yinsi, Yinzhen and Qingchuan are in a love triangle in Palace.C. Viewers are fascinated by the time travel plot of Palace.D. Palace is the same as any other time travel tale ever shown on the screen.DThe British tourism agency issued guidelines on the etiquette of dealing with visitors coming to London for the 2012 Olympics. The guidelines also happen to tell how they really feel about the world. 21st Century staff Simon Stafford from the UK will give you the footnotes.Brazilian “Steer clear especially of such issues as age, salary, or marriage when talking to someone from Brazil.”Simon: It should be fairly easy for the Brits to keep off all of these issues, as they probably wouldnt think of asking about such personal subjects anyway. Soccer is a much safer topic of conversation and is, apart from coffee, just about the only thing the Brits know about Brazil.French“The French are notoriously picky in restaurants.”Simon:Incredibly fussy eaters. Whatever you do, never offer to cook for a Frenchman unless you want to be told just how poor your countrys food is. Many British love their simple “meat and two vegetable” meals and hate being told how boring and bland (清淡的) their food is. Paris is a beautiful hell for many Brits.Indian“Avoid physical contact when first meeting someone from India.”Simon: Absolutely no problem. Brits dont do warm greetings anyway; although they may well want to shake hands, so be prepared. The one thing Indians can be sure of is a warm welcomethere is a big India community waiting to embrace them. Just dont mention the fact that chicken tikka masala isnt a real Indian dishthe Brits wont thank you for it.Chinese“Chinese visitors may be unimpressed by landmarks just a few hundred years old.”Simon: Forget Windor Castle. Forget the Houses of Parliament. No self-respecting Chinese is likely to be impressed by buildings that dont yet measure their age in thousands of years. Also, we hope you can learn to love queuing, because if you come here youll be doing a lot of it. Brits, far from viewing queuing as a soul-destroying exercise in futility, see it as the height of civilization.Japanese“The Japanese tend to smile when angry, embarrassed, sad or disappointed.”Simon: Thats okthe Brits are used to disappointment, too, especially where sport is concerned. We are also just as bad at expressing our emotions as the Japanese so we should get on like a house on fire. Just dont clog up our narrow pavements taking photographs of the sky . Some of us have to get to work, you know. American“Americans can appear informal to the point of being very direct or even rude.”Simon: Hyper-confident, loud and loaded. We share a common languagealmostand a cultural heritage. Thank God we can still sell the US our history. Whisper it, but they may be the only reason we still have a Queen. Were just annoyed that no one puts a “u” in “color” any more.52. Which of the following can be the meaning of “steer clear of”?A. Cover. B. Flee.C. Avoid. D. Involve.53. What can be inferred from the passage?A. The Chinese never learn to love queuing while the Brits think highly of queuing.B. The Frenchmen are particular about food.C. Because no one puts a “u” in “color” any more, the Brits are annoyed.D. The Brits know more of coffee than soccer.54. Which statement is true according to the passage?A. When first meeting someone from India, the Brits should avoid mentioning chicken tikka masala.B. The Brits should offer to cook for a Frenchman if they are sure their countrys food is good.C. The Brits can sell the US their history because they share a common language and a cultural heritage.D. The Brits may get on quite well with the Japanese as they are both bad at expressing their emoti
