BMy favorite book, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, talks about a formula called “SFF” which stands for “stopping finding faults”. I used to be a critical person and tried to find faults. I guess I somehow inherited this character from my father. Actually many good qualities of my father are worth admiring except this.My father is the person who constantly looks for mistakes in other people and he thinks no one is perfect in the world. His character created a negative atmosphere in my family. I was the same as my father, so I often felt angry, disappointed, depressed, and lonely in school. After I had read my favorite book I began to seek “good things” in other people. It has completely changed my life. Now I feel happier, I have more friends, I have more trust in people, and I realize everyone has their own strength! Another important lesson I got from this book is that I should always behave myself in a positive manner. Lets admit that we sometimes complain about our situation. Thats not good. “Believe it or not, people dont like to listen to negative opinions.”O(jiān)ne more valuable lesson I got from the book is that I should be a good listener. When I was younger, I only wanted people to pay whole attention to my words so that I could show them how important I was. I was very proud and would show off my achievements in school without considering others feeling. I had very few friends and most people considered me as an “arrogant” person. Now, I find it mush easier to make friends after making some changes!4. Why does the author like the book The Secret?A. Because hes found the secret of success from it.B. Because the book uncovers the secrets of happiness.C. Because hes learnt his fathers characters from it.D. Because it helps him change his attitude towards life.5. What do you know about the authors father?A. He makes his son feel angry and disappointed.B. He likes finding faults with people around him.C. He seems a critical person but in fact easy-going.D. He can create a negative atmosphere when necessary.6. The underlined word “arrogant” probably means “_”.A. self-importantB. admirableC. troublesomeD. cold-blooded7. What is the authors purpose in writing the text?A. To persuade readers to be good listeners.B. To share his painful changing experience.C. To tell readers the influence of a book on him.D. To show the result of his fathers negative character. CReality TV show has been accused of making the nation silly, but a study suggests part of the show could be good for children. Massey University PhD student Jacinta Hawkins looked at the influence of TV programs on kids health knowledge, attitudes and behavior. She said programs which showed overweight people on TV is making children say “I dont want to grow up like that.” The research was part of Ms Hawkins paper on how schools improve health. She spoke to 92 children, aged from 7 to 13, from six Auckland primary schools to find out how they received information on nutrition and physical activity. Some said they learnt from TV news programs, but most of them mentioned reality shows such as Fat Chance, Honey Were Killing the Kids and Downsize Me. “ Earlier studies had looked at the effect junk-food advertising had on children,” Ms Hawkins said, “but messages within TV programs had not been explored. Children from the six schools largely recognized program content, rather than advertising, as a source of food and physical activity messages. They are learning habits of eating and exercise from TV programs. ” The children also recognized that their parents had a role to play in shaping health behavior. Talking about Honey Were Killing the Kids, which shows how people will look if they continue with good habits, children said they developed attitudes from their familys habits. Ms Hawkins said children remembered what they had seen and thought it was the parents duty to lead by example. 8. What does Hawkins find about reality TV show?A. It may teach kids much scientific knowledge. B. Some shows may have kids develop ill habits. C. It may draw kids attention away from studies. D. Some shows may help kids eat more healthily. 9. What method did Hawkins use to get her findings?A. Doing interviews. B. Performing experiments. C. Studying science reports. D. Comparing earlier studies. 10. How do most students get information on health?A. From TV shows. B. From news reports. C. From television ads. D. From health experts. 11. According to the children, which may have a great influence on their health behavior?A. School. B. Family. C. Friends. D. Scientific research. D The sixth mass extinction of life on Earth is unfolding more quickly than feared, scientists have warned. More than 30 percent of animals with a backbone-fish, birds, amphibians(兩棲動物), reptiles and mammals-are declining in both range and population, according to the first comprehensive analysis of these trends. Around a decade ago, experts feared that a new range wipeout of species was appearing. Today, most agree that it is underway-but the new study suggests that the die-out is already growing fast. It provides much-needed data about the threat to wildlife, mapping the reducing ranges and populations of 27,600 species. For 177 mammals, researchers collected data covering the period from 1900 to 2015. The mammal species that were monitored have lost at least a third of their original habitat, the researchers found. Forty percent of them - including rhinos, gorillas and many big cats - are surviving on 20 percent or less of the land they once wandered. The loss of biodiversity has recently accelerated. Several species of mammals that were relatively safe one or two decades ago are now endangered, including cheetahs(獵豹), lions and giraffes, the study showed. There is no mystery as to why: our own ever-expanding species - which has more than doubled in number since 1960 to 7.4 billion - is eating, crowding and polluting its planetary cohabitants out of existence. By comparison, there are as few as 20, 000 lions left in the wild, less than 7,000 cheetahs, 500 to 1,000 giant pandas. The main drivers of wildlife decline are habitat loss, overconsumption, pollution, other species, disease, as well as hunting in the case of tigers, elephants, rhinos and other large animals prized for their body parts. Climate change is thought to become a major threat in the coming decades, with some animals - most famously polar bears - already in decline due to rising temperatures and changing weather patterns. 12. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to?A. The researchers. B. The original habitats. C. The mammal species. D. The endangered animals. 13. Why has the loss of biodiversity speeded up?A. The mankinds population is growing fast. B. The air pollution is too severe. C. There are fewer species in larger areas. D. Man causes wider water pollution. 14. How is the future of polar bears?A. Hopeless. B. Hopeful. C. Doubtful. D. Worrying. 15. What is the main idea of the passage?A. All mammals are now endangered. B. Wildlife habitat loss is too serious. C. The wildlife extinction is speeding up. D. Backbone animals are decreasing slowly. 第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2分,滿分10 分) 根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項。選項中有兩項為多余選項。As a senior year student, you may have so many pressures coming from so many directions that you cant figure out what to do first. 16_ When you have many things to do and a lot of demands on your time, you can lose sight of whats important.
