I hated Nrth Carlina, but I ended up in Nrth Carlina. But I was in lve with David Thmpsn, nt just fr the

3、game basketball, but in terms f what he represented. Yu knw, we all, as David says r said we g thrugh trails and tribulatins. And he did, and I was inspired by him. And when I called him and asked him t stand up fr me, I knw I shcked a sht ut f him. I knw I did. But he is very kind t say, ”Yeath, Il

4、l d it.” That is nt disrespect t the Nrth Carlina guy; we all knw I am true blue Nrth Carlina guy t the heart. My father and my mther spent a lt time with Mike and fund ut gd things abut her, but what abut me that yu guys dnt knw?I gt tw brthers, James and Larry, five fur and five five in height. They give me all I culd ever ask fr. As brthers, in

7、 terms f cmpetitin. My brther Larry is an ideal situatin with small things cming with small packages. This d fall me every single day. T the etend that my mther used t cme ut and make us cme in because we were fighting way t much. My lder brther was always gne. He is served in the army fr 31 years.

8、And the cmpetitin didnt stp there. My sister wh is ne year yunger than me, never want t be alne by herself. She tk classes, etra classes, graduated frm high schl with me, t g t university Nrth Carlina with me, and t graduate fairer than me. And yu guys wanna knw where my cmpetitin nature cmes frm, i

9、t came frm them, it came frm my lder sister and she is nt here tday. My father wh is nt here tday, bviusly he is with us, all f us. My cmpetitive nature has gne a lng way frm the first time I picked up any sprts, baseball, ftball, run-track, basketball, anything in this class I played.They started t

Lerld Smith, nw yu guys think thats a mistake. Lerld Smith was the guy when I gt kicks he gt picked in the team. He is here tnight. He is s

But he started the whle prcess fr me, because when he made the team and I didnt, I wanted t prve, nt just t Lerld Smith, nt just t myself, but t the cach wh actually picked Lerld ver me. When I first met Buss, all I heard abut was that this kid frm Ashville Nrth Carlina was clearly unplayed against but he has never played against me then, s hw d yu cme t be the player f the year? 13、lmingtn, yu knw, where tw channel, channel ABC and channel NBC that I never saw NBA at all when I grw up. They didnt have CBS receiver in Nrth Carlina r Wilmingtn als. Buss Petersn became a dead n my bard. When I get a chance t meet Petersn n turt. But he is a great persn. It isnt the fault f his. I

14、t was just my cmpetitive natures. I didnt think he can beat me r is better than me as a basketball player. And he became my rmmate. Frm that pint n, he became my fcal pint nt knwingly. He didnt knw it, but he did. And Cach Smith, the day when he was n the Sprts Illustrated, he named fur starters and

15、 he didnt name me. That burned me up, because I gt t be n that Sprts Illustrate. He had his wn visin abut giving a freshman that epsure, I ttally understand that but frm a basketball sense I deserve t be n that Sprts Illustrated, and he understands that.And it didnt stp there. My cmpetitive natures

16、went right int the prs, I get t the bulls which I am very prud. At the time Jerry Reinsdrf didnt wn the team. It was anther rganizatin Reinsdrf drafted me. Kevin Lughery was my first cach. Kevin used t take practice and put me in starting five. Yu knw, he made a cmpetitive thing where the lsing team

17、 had t run. S nw we are almst n the winning team, halfway n the game, halfway n the situatin, he switched me t the lsing team. S I tk that as a cmpetitive thing, but yu were trying t test me and by nine times ut f ten the secnd team wuld cme back t win n matter what he did. S I appreciated Kevin t g

18、ive me that challenge, prviding that type f fire with me and he threw anther lg n that fire fr me. Jerry Reinsdrf, I mean what else can I say. The net year when I came back I brke my ft; I was ut f 65 games. And when I came back I wanna play. The dctr came with his ld thery that yu can play nly seve

19、n minutes a game, but I am practicing tw hurs a day. I am saying, well, I dnt agree with that math. And back then, whever has the wrst recrd gets the mst balls in Ping-Pang balls, yu knw yu can decide what pick yu can have, but I dnt care abut that. I just wanted t win. I wanna made t playffs. I wan

20、na keep that energy ging in Chicag. S I had t g int his ffice and sat dwn with him and say “Jerry, I actually think I shuld play mre than 14 minutes and practice mre than tw hurs. He said “We have t prtect the lng-term investment weve invested n yu. I said “I really think I shuld be able t play.” He

21、 said “Let me ask yu this, if yu had a headache.” At that time, there was ten percent that I can hurt my ankle r my ft. He said “Yu had a headache and yu gt ten capsules, and ne f them is cated with pisn, wuld yu take it?” I lked him and say “It depends n hw bad is that headache. Hw bad is that head

22、ache” .Jerry lked me and say “Yu are K, I guess yu had a gd answer, yu can g back t play. Yu let me allw yu t g back and play.” Yu knw, Jerry prvided a lt f difficult bstacles fr me but at the same time the guy gave me a pprtunity t perfrm at the highest level in terms f basketball. The bulls, the w

23、hle bulls rganizatin, yu knw, they did great adjustments fr me and all my teammates. Believe me I had a lt f teammates in all the 14 years I played fr the bulls. I respect each ne f them. I just want them t win. N matter hw yu lked at it. Dug Cllins came the same time when I was trying t play at the

24、 summer time. He said “well, yu are part f the rganizatin and the rganizatin said yu cant play at the summer time. I said “yu read the things in my cntract; in my cntract I have the lve the game clause. That means I can play anytime I want, any place I want And Dug lked at me and said “yu are right,

25、 yu are right.” And thats hw we became a little clser. Jerry Krause is right there and Jerry is nt here. bviusly I dnt knw whd invite him, I didnt. But, I hpe he understands it ges a lng way. I didnt see it playing with a bad ankle.” Granted, granted, I think rganizatins put tgether teams, but at the end f the day, teams gt t g ut and play. And I take the heart in that, because I think in all I can see yu are cmpetitive and even frm a cach standing pint. Yu challenge me every time I play the Nicks, the Heats, I dnt think

37、yu are with the Lakers, but every time I play against yu, yu have “Jrdan Stppers” n yur team, yu have Jhn Starks wh I lve. Yu even had my friend akley says “We cant g t the lunch, we cant g t the dinner tgether, because this guy hit me harder than anybdy else in the league. He was my best friend. Pa

38、trick Erving and I are the same age. We came up at the same time. But we cant g t the lunch tgether. Why is this an issue? Yu think I play against Patrick any different than I play anybdy else? 39、airly and I may dead n turt. Where is it cme frm? I just happen t be a friendly guy. I get alng with everybdy, but at the same time when the light cmes n, I am mre cmpetitive than anybdy. 40、fessinal Dean Smith. He challenged me mentally, nt just physically. Yu knw, he understd the game, alng with Te Wenter. They taught me a lt abut the basketball game. Te being the specialist, I can never please Te. And I lve Te. Te is nt here. And I knw he is here in spirit. I can remember a game cmin

41、g after turt; we were dwn five t ten pints. And I g ff abut 25 pints, we came back t win the game. As we walked ut the flr and Te lked me and said “yu knw, there is I in team.” I said “there is nt I in team, but there is I in win.” I think he gt my message. I will d anything t win. Yu knw, that mean

42、s we play team frmat t win. That means I will d what I have t d. N matter hw yu lk at it. Then yu had all yur media message “Scring champin cant win a NBA title”. 45、st met Bryn Russell, Jhn and Karl, I was in Chicag in 1994. I was wrking ut fr baseball and they all came dwn fr wrkut and shting arund. I came ver and say “Hell”, and at this time I had n thughts f cming back and playing the game f basketball. Bryn Russell came ver t me and said “why did yu quit? w

46、hy did yu quit? Yu knw I culd guard yu, if I ever see yu in a pair f shrts”. D yu remember? Jhn. When I did decide t cme back in 1995 and we played Utah in 96, Im at the center circle and Bryn Russell is standing net t me. I said “Yu remember the cnversatin yu made in 1994 abut I think I can guard y
