I was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province in China on November 8, 1969. Later, my f

2、amily moved to Beijing where I grew up. I am from a family of academics. My father is a professor of linguistics and Chief of the University Journal Agency of Beijing Language and Culture University (formerly Beijing Language Institute). My mother is a professor at the same university and teaches Ch

3、inese as a foreign language. From 1991 to 1993, my mother taught Chinese at Wittenberg University, Ohio and Indiana University at Bloomington. She encouraged me to apply for admission to advanced programs in the U.S. I graduated from high school in 1988, and received the highest scores in my school

4、at the National Entrance Examination for Universities. This made me an “Honor Student” at the national level. Upon acceptance to Beijing Language and Culture University, my major became English, with minors in linguistics, French and computer science. I was awarded consecutive scholarships for all f

5、our years in college. During my college years, I became more and more interested in linguistics. My senior year was largely devoted to topics in linguistics, and my required thesis work focused on the influence of cultural and educational factors upon the Chinese and English languages. After college

6、, Beijing Science & Technology University employed me. For the first year and a half I was assigned to a project aimed at creating improved computer program for idiomatic English-Chinese & Chinese-English translations. This project proved me with considerable experience linguistics, and further impr

7、oved my understanding of the subtleties of both English and Chinese. Since the project completion, I have been teaching intensive English courses at Beijing Science and Technology University. Since July of 1993, I have taught English listening comprehension at Beijing Language and Culture University

8、. The latter classes are part of a program that provides adult Chinese professionals with opportunity to improve their English. My interest in linguistics is initially based on my desire to better comprehend the English language, and, in the process, learn more about my own language. China is now op

9、ening and engaging in ever expanding cultural and financial relations with the English-speaking countries of the West. It has struck me, as it may have occurred to many of my compatriots that negotiations to bring about these new and improved relations sometimes break down because of mutual ignoranc

10、e about each others languages. I am aware that this has been a popular problem for study, among Americans engaging in business and other fields, but I am not aware of any serious attempt to research this problem from a Chinese point of view. Through my work in the U.S., I would hope to contribute to

11、 a better understanding of the problems inherent in the deep differences between the two languages. I recognize that a thesis project in most graduate schools is chosen after on has studied in various programs in a department and after extensive discussion with ones professors. Nevertheless, I would

12、 hope that investigating socio-cultural differences between English and Chinese might be considered a suitable topic. Such a study would focus on the cultural, historical, traditional and educational factors, which influence the two languages, and significantly contribute to possible misinterpretati

13、ons. My long-term plan is to continue working on comparative aspects of English and Chinese linguistics. Yours sincerely, 新西蘭留學(xué)如何租房 一、如何找房 1、一般在報(bào)紙上都會(huì)有跟房屋出租有關(guān)的版塊，學(xué)生們可以在這些欄目中去尋找房子以及跟出租人進(jìn)行聯(lián)系。在報(bào)紙上找的好處就是不用交什么手續(xù)費(fèi)之類的，但需要用比較多的時(shí)間去找。 2、也可以通過(guò)房地產(chǎn)公司來(lái)找到適合的房子。這些公司不但會(huì)代理房東進(jìn)行 房子的出租，也會(huì)給房東進(jìn)行 房子的管理。一般在明確要租房以后，房地產(chǎn)公司是會(huì)收一些手續(xù)費(fèi)的。通過(guò)這些公司來(lái)

15、找房子比較好的地方是選擇性多，也能去實(shí)地看房子的情況。 3、還可以通過(guò)出租中心來(lái)找適合的房子。但是出租中心一般得交了一些費(fèi)用后才能去看房子，不過(guò)這個(gè)收費(fèi)沒(méi)有房地產(chǎn)公司那么多，只是如果對(duì)房子不是很喜歡不想租，也一樣要交這個(gè)費(fèi)用的。 二、簽訂合約 如果明確了要租的房子以后，首先要把租房合約簽了，跟房東或者是房地產(chǎn)公司簽都是可以的，這兩者所使用的都是政府所準(zhǔn)備的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)合約。 三、交付押金 明確租房后一般都得給房東一筆押金，不會(huì)很多，最多等于房租，并且在以后退房的時(shí)候也會(huì)返還回來(lái)的。但這筆押金不是房東自己收著，而是會(huì)交到相應(yīng)的押金中心來(lái)做保管。以后在終止租房后，需要去填寫(xiě)一份表格來(lái)拿回這筆押金。 四、終

16、止租約 如果自己不想租房子了，一般都是在搬出去之前的21天給房東一個(gè)書(shū)面的通知。如果是房東不想租了，那么他就得在90天之前給學(xué)生一份書(shū)面通知。如果是房子已經(jīng)被出售，并且新房主馬上就要搬進(jìn)來(lái)了?；蛘呤欠繓|需要在這個(gè)房子里住等等的情況，這其中的時(shí)間還會(huì)縮短到42天。 五、同住室友 其實(shí)在新西蘭，室友跟租客是不一樣的。如果是有跟房東簽下合同的才算是租客，但若是跟室友是存在著租約關(guān)系，并且室友也有在支付房租，這就是的室友的概念。而室友雖然跟房東沒(méi)有合約關(guān)系，但還是得跟租客負(fù)責(zé)的。學(xué)生們?nèi)绻且矣岩黄鹱。谌胱≈翱梢韵雀矣押灪檬矣褏f(xié)議，其中要寫(xiě)明各人需要承擔(dān)的房租等等這些內(nèi)容。 新西蘭留學(xué)擔(dān)保金 一、擔(dān)保金的數(shù)量 擔(dān)保金的數(shù)量跟據(jù)課程的長(zhǎng)度來(lái)計(jì)算的，以每年15萬(wàn)計(jì)算。比如有個(gè)學(xué)生要去維多利亞大學(xué)讀2年制的MPA課程，那么擔(dān)保金需要準(zhǔn)備30萬(wàn);如果有個(gè)學(xué)生要去奧克蘭大學(xué)讀1年的預(yù)科+3年的本科，那么我們不需要提供60萬(wàn)，一般能夠提供前3年45萬(wàn)的擔(dān)保金就可以了。 二、擔(dān)保金的形式 擔(dān)保金不需要去交給誰(shuí)，只要存入銀行就可以了(活期和定期的存款都可以，除此之外的囊括股票、房產(chǎn)、理財(cái)?shù)鹊榷疾荒茏鳛閾?dān)保金，除非折現(xiàn))。擔(dān)保金可以存在學(xué)生名下，也可以存在擔(dān)保人(比如父母)名下。 三、擔(dān)保金的存期 1、存款超過(guò)6個(gè)月，不需要解釋資金來(lái)源 2
