As the topic covers such a large scale, every member c

3、hooses the part that he is most interested in. My part is Korean Pop Music, which is not as important as Korean dramas, but is still a critical part of Korean Wave. This essay will start with the history of Korean Pop Music, which has a history of almost a century, from Trot of Tradition Pop Music t

4、o Modern Pop Music we see now. Then I will have a brief introduction of the special mode of Music Production, where Entertainment firms trainees, and idol groups play an important role. After this, I will mention the research we have made followed by result analysis. At last, I will make a conclusio

In this essay I will have a brief discussion about how one of a part of Korean Wave, Korean Pop Music affect China and why. The History of Korean Pop Music【 1】 Korean traditional pop music dates back to the 1920s when it w

7、as ruled by Japanese invaders.Strongly influenced by Japanese traditional music form, yonga( ), the original form ofKorean pop music, Trot( ?), came into existence. “ Trot i”s a music form of simple and cheerful tunes along with some dances.The history of modern pop music can be divided into 4 perio

8、ds. The first, in the 1920s to the beginning of 1990s, the period of preparation. The economic development in the 1980s enhanced the external communication of Korea with the outside world when Korean pop music began to absorb some features of Western music. The second, in 1992 to 1996, the period of

9、 a turn. In this period, Korean vulgar music began to merge with Western music materials. The presentative of musicians in this period is Xu Taizhi, who made an innovation of Korean music form, truly combing African music with vulgar music in Korea. From him, Korean musicians began to driveKorean mu

10、sic to a direction of having particular characteristics. The third, the grown-up period.Along with the return of a large number of Korean Americans and the expansion of international music communications, Korean musicians remoulded Western dance music and absorbed some musical ingredients of Blue an

11、d Jazz, taking Korean traditional music and language style into consideration, and finally give birth of the typical Korean pop music, which took advantage of the form of idol groups and began to walk out of Korea. The fourth, from 2000 to now, the development period. After 2000, the trait of Korean

12、 pop music tend to stabilize, with a majority of dance, pop electrical sounds and Hip-Hop. Meanwhile, many singers and groups well-known in whole Asia has appeared.Modern Korean pop music has absorbed the characteristics of both Eastern and Western music, combining Ballade, Rap, Dance, R&B, Rock, Hi

13、phop, Indie and Jazz etc. these so many music forms. Modern Korean Pop music is based on dance music, with an emphasis on rhythm andmelody. The rhythm is usually fast, and the melody is easy to remember. 【 1】Korean pop music seems to have a magic power. It can impress people very much and make them

14、have a trill. The fascinating charm of Korean music and the excitement brought by it can make people who listen to it addicted, especially among youngsters of about 15-30 years old. Korean Music-making ModeSo how has Korean pop music made it? It must be owing much to the music producing system.Gener

15、ally speaking, the mature series of procedures for Korean artists to grow up from a naive kid to a superstar has made remarkable contribution to its success.There are many entertainment firms in Korea intended especially for produce idols. These firms select some children as “ trainees” from a young

16、 age. Early even as a pupil or a middle school student at the age of 10 years old, the artist-to-be is registered to the entertainment firm. Generally, the training period will be 2-3 years, some even 7 years, before finally becoming a star. However, the competition is unbelievably stiff. At the age

17、 of 15, there will be a test to select trainees to become artists. In this test, only 1 in 800 competitors will stand out. And what s worse, only half of these artists can finally debut. The training and selection period can be very strict. The subjects they need to learn cover music, dialogue, shap

18、e, act and make-up. And there are always strictexaminations over time and one can be easily eliminated if not meeting the standards.4】examinations over time and one can be easily eliminated if not meeting the standards.4】TheKorean drama, Producer, reflects this phenomenon to some extent. The popular

19、 singer, Cindy, doesn t eat food with starch coz it can make her fat. She also doesn t have soup afraid of having her face swelled up. When seeing other trainees in this firm just like her as a child, she told them to quit and not to suffer it. They really suffer a lot. Han Geng, an ex-member of Sup

20、erJunior-M maintained when interviewed in Lu Yu has an appointment, when being a trainee, at most every day he had to continuously practice for as long as 20 hours. “ The fierce training was extremely bitter, even without knowing his bone was broken after 2 months. Trainees both eat and live in the

21、firm. Going out personally is controlled totally, with little freedom. ” What s more, almost every artists have to have cosmetic surgeries, which is not only expensive but also, worse, really suffering. What is most amazing is that according to data published in 2013, there are overall 25,000 entert

22、ainers in Korea, which has a total population of 50,000,000, which means 1 among 200 of Korean is an artist who has already debuted. See what an important industry music entertainment is in Korea! Research and AnalysisAs I am really a fan of Korean pop music, my feeling that Korean music is popular

23、may be too subjective. So our group did a survey to see if Korean music is really that popular in China, especially among university students. I am also curious about what are they think of, Korean pop music and the music industry in Korea.Luckily, our questionnaire was well received and 80 pieces w

24、as returned back. The number of samples was big enough so the result is rather persuadable.I have enclosed a piece of the questionnaire and the results at the end of the essay for consulting. There are 21 questions in the questionnaire about Korean music which can be separated into 3 parts. The firs

25、t part is related to people esn thusiasm to Kor ean pop music. These questions include question 1,2,3,6,7,8,9,14,15,19,20,21.According to the results, we can see 15% of the interviewees say they don ht ave contact with Korean music, while the rest of them have listened, more or less. Seems that Kore

26、an music have really entered most people s life. Among the people who clahiamv ethleisyte n to the music, 13.75% listen often, 7.5% like it, and 18.75% claim they like it very much. In terms of watching MVs and the number of songs they have listened, and if they tend to sing or hum the lyrics or rhy

27、thms of the songs, the results are similar. The slight difference is that the MV is not as popular as music itself.And what is awesome is that 27.5% of the interviewees have listened to over 100 Korean songs, which takes over one fifth, amazing, right?Turn to the questions intended to see about the

28、fans in China. Half of the interviewees claim to be a fan of a Korean artist or group. And most of them can like the idols sanely while approximately 1/4 is very much crazy about them.Turning to the results of questions about buying albums and going to the concerts, we can see most people hardly buy

29、 albums to support their idols but 1/4 of them said they will certainly go tothe concert of their favourite idols while the rest will consider the specific situation.Before moving to the “ favouritei dols ”part, let task e a look on some most popular artists and groups in Korea. According to statics

30、 of the number of members of authority fans organisations of【 5】Korean female idol groups up to February 5th, 2016 and the World Album of Billboard on【 6】March 2nd, 2016, these two pictures are the most popular female and male artists or groups. Thes day,5 most favourite female artists or groups are

31、 girl s generation, iu, aapnindkw, ognirlder girls. The 5 most received male artists or groups are TVXQ, BTS, Beast, Bigbang, and Infinite.s day,The question 19 and 20 quest the interviewees to make a list on his/her favourite artists or singers according to the extents they like them. We have recei

32、ved 27 valuable answers, indicating that33.75% of the interviewees are really into Korean idols. Among the artists, IU is the most popular, who has 7 fans. The next who is also very popular is G-Dragon, who has 5 fans. Among the groups, Bigbang is the most popul ar with 12 fans, Super Junior and Gir

33、l Gse neration are the second with 5, Infinite and EXO are the third with 4 supporters, and Lovelyz, Gfriend and BTS are the fourth with 2 lovers.Our last question is asking interviewees to express their love to their idols. 14 of them responded to the question, indicating that at least 17.5% of peo

34、ple are real fans of their favourite artists andKorean pop music with great enthusiasm.So why is Korean pop music so popular? The statics from question 3 and 4 can answer this question. The reason why people listen to Korean music is mostly considered that they like the rhythm. So we can see the rhy

35、thm of the Korean songs is really fascinating. Another two reasons which is also of great consensus is that they like the singer and that they can relax themselves while listening. On the other hand, the reason how Korean Wave is transmitted can be found in the result of Question 4. The ways intervi

36、ewees get aware of Korean pop music is mostly fromKorean dramas and movies. The method that takes the second place is from the music software.Another way that is also of great significance is from the influence of classmates and friends around them.Question 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18 are engaged in

37、the opinions people have on Korean pop music.Among them, question 12 is about people s opinion about why Korean music is so popular. There are various reasons that are all well-acknowledged. The reasons are: The appearance is good; the rhythm can easily make people addicted; the dance accompanying w

38、ith songs are great; the rhythm is lively and cheerful; the songs are carefully made so the quality is good, etc. We can also know about people s view on the common phenomenon of doing cosmetic surgeries. Almost half of the int erviewees don t care and over 1/3 says whatever if they are beautiful.Th

39、e last part of the questionnaire is about people s opinions on -trhaeis pinagt taenrnd othf es targroup patterns in Korea. Most people don t know very much about the entemrtapiannmieesn itnc oKorea. Talking about the mature but cruel model to train artists, over half of the people think it is good a

40、s it is what makes the artists excellent. However, the rest of them think it too hard and inhuman for young kids.As for the group mode instead of solo mode, we also have found out people s points of view. Th mostly think these people both sing and dance and it is tiring. Also, many people think it m

41、akes idols really handsome or pretty. Others think it a good way to make money. In terms of the number people appropriate for a group, almost half of the interviewees prefer 4-5 people, while approximately 1/4 prefer 2-3 prefer 2-3 and the rest 6-7. When asked whether this mode can also be suitable

42、for China. Half of the interviewees don tth ink so as the two countries are very different. 26.25% doubt the ability of China to imitate this mode. And 22.5% think it is a good idea. The Radical Reason of Its PopularityWe ve have a general picture of the popularity of Korean pop music among Chinese

43、people around us. However, the real reason why Korean music is so successful remains unclear. Yes, it may be because the near locations between the two countries and the advantage of the Internet, but there is a radical reason.I will refer to an expert on the influence Korean Wave has on teenagers, Zheng Xiaohong statement as my conclu
