ChairmanSpalter,honoredguests,parents,faculty,staff,and–mostly!–the183graduatesand486undergraduatesheretoday.IshouldsayrightoffthatIamreallyqualifiedtobeyourcommencementspeaker.Iwassuspendedfromhighschool,thenkickedoutofcollegeinthefirstmarijuanascandaleveronauniversitycampus.I’vebeenarrestedseveraltimes.I’vebeenknowntodressinludicrousfashions.I’vealsobuiltacareeroutofnegativereviews,andhavebeencalled“theprinceofpuke”bythepress.AndmostrecentlyatitleI’mreallyproudof:“thepeople’spervert.”Iamhonoredtobeheretodaywithmypeople.OK,I’msupposedtoinspireyou.How’sthis?SomehowI’vebeenabletomakealivingngwhatIlovebestfor50yearswithouteverhavingtogetarealjob.“Buthowcanyoubesodisciplined?”friendsalwaysaskwhenIlthemmyjobistogetupeverydayat6A.M.MondaytoFridayandthinkupinsanestuff.Easy!IfIdidn’tworkthishardformyself,I’dhavetogoworkforsomebodyelse.PlusIcangotomyofficeoneroomawayfrommybedroominmyownhousedressedinmyunderpantsifIwantto.You’relucky.WhenIwenttoschool,myteachersdiscouragedeverydreamIeverhad.Iwantedtobethefilthiest alive,butnoschoolwouldletme.IbetRISDwould’ve.YoucouldpossiblyevenmakeasnuffmoviehereandgetanA+.Hopefullyyouhavebeentaughtnevertofearrejectionintheworkplace.Remember,anoisfree.Askfortheworldandpaynomindifyouareinitiallyturneddown.Acareerintheartsislikeahitchhikingtrip:Allyouneedisone
