China'slogisticsvaluegrew3.4%in2022toRMB347.6trillion,whilethetotalrevenueofthelogisticsindustryreachedRMB12.7trillion,up4.7%YoY.

Railwaytransport,coldchainfacilities,andexpressdeliverymaintainedhighergrowthrates.Thenationalrailwaynetworktransported3.9billiontonsofgoods,up4.7%YoY,thehighestinnearlythreeyears.Cold-chainlogisticsmarketsizeisexpectedtoexceedRMB450-490billionin2022.Expressdeliveryvolumestotalled110.6billionparcels,anetincreaseof2.3billionoverthepreviousyear.

Internationallogisticscontinuetounlocknewroutesandexpandexistingchannelswith16,000China-Europefreighttrainsoperatedand1.6millionTEUsshippedin2022,up9%and10%YoYrespectively.Meanwhile,theNewLand-SeaCorridorinwesternChinamaintainedstronggrowthmomentum,with756,000TEUsshippedin2022,up18.5%YoY.

Utilizedforeigndirectinvestment(FDI)totalledUS$189.1bn(RMB1.23trn).Despitethecontinuousbusinessdisruptionandlockdownsthroughouttheyear,investmentgrew8%YoYand6.8%5YRCAGR.TheYangtzeRiverDeltaregionisstillthemostattractiveregionforforeigncapital.

Keysectorsofgrowthhavebeenhigh-techmanufacturingwhichgrewby28.3%YoY,andtheautomobile(includingEVs)sectorwhichrecordedanincreaseof264%,drivingthedemandforhigh-standardfactoryandwarehousespace.Chinaremainsacriticalcomponentoftheglobalsupplychain.

Covidpolicies,tradetensions,risingcostsandotherconsiderationshaveencouragedinternationalfirmstoconsideraugmentingorreplacingpartoralloftheirsupplychaintomarketssuchasVietnamandIndia.Additionally,targetedexportrestrictionsinsectorssuchassemiconductorswillforcecompaniestolookfordomesticsubstitutes.Whilethesemaynotbeonparwithinternationalpeers,increasedsalesrevenueswillallowdomesticmanufacturerstoinvestmoreinR&Dandbeginnarrowingthetechnologicaldivide.
