Afterproposingin1893,hemarriedSaraWhiteonDecember28,1898.Theyultimatelyseparatedin1909,partlyasaresultofDreiser'sinfatuationwithThelmaCudlipp,theteenagedaughterofaworkcolleague,butwereneverformallydivorced.
