6.CollegeReadingRoomPhenomenonAsisshowninthegraphofthecollegereadingroomattendancethereareroughlytwocycleswithgreatriseandfall.WhenthenewtermstartsinSeptemberthereareabout275studentswhogotothereadingroom.ThenumberincreasesrapidlywitheachpassingmonthtillNovemberandstillincreasesatamuchlowerratereachingthepeakjustbeforetheexamsinearlyDecember.Duringthewintervacationmoststudentsgohomesothenumberofstudentsusingthereadingroomdropstoalmost175.Thesecondcycleinthespringsemesterissimilartothefirst.Afterthreemonthsthenumbergoesupgreatly.ItisonlyafterAprilwiththeapproachingfinalexamsinmindthatmoststudentsstartseriouslyusingthefacilitiesofthereadingroom.Duringthesummervacationstudentsarerarelyseeninit.Theattendancefiguresreflectthestudents'lifeatcollege.Thegraphindicatesthatexamsarethedrivingforceformanystudents.Inthefirsttwomonthsofeachsemesterquiteafewstudentsrelaxessinceexamsarestillfaraway.Theyonlystudyhardinreadingroomafewweeksbeforetheexamsbecausetheretheycaneasilygetholdofallthereferencestheyneedfortheirtermpapersortheexams.Infactstudentsshouldnotstudyforthesakeofexamsbecauseitisjustoneeffectivewayof
