GreatExpectationswasthepenultimatenovelpletedbythemostpopularnovelistofVictorianEngland,CharlesDickens.BorninKent,England,in1812toafamilyofmodestmeansbutgreatpretensions,Dickenssearlylifewasmarkedbybothhumiliationandambition.Dickensneverforgottheperiodoffinancialcrisisduringhischildhood,whenfollowinghisfathersbankruptcy,hewastakenoutofschoolandforcedtoworkinashoepolishwarehouse.
