Buttheurgencyofthethreat,andthecatastrophicconsequencesofevenasingleactofnuclearterrorism,demandaneffortthatisatonceboldandpragmatic.

ThisincludestheUnitedNations,theInternationalAtomicEnergyAgency,themultilateralpartnershipthatstrengthensnuclearsecurity,preventnucleartraffickingandassistnationsinbuildingtheircapacitytosecuretheirnuclearmaterials.

Aftermanyyearsofeffort,I'mpleasedthattheUnitedStatesandRussiaagreedtodaytoeliminate68tonsofplutoniumforourweaponsprograms-—plutoniumthatwouldhavebeenenoughforabout17,000nuclearweapons.
