Wetakethisopportunitytocommendtheeffortsofteachers,especiallyfemaleteachers,whoaccepttoserveinhighrisk,deprivedanddisadvantagedareas,reachingouttotheexcluded,andbringingthemtheprospectofabetterlifethrougheducation.Teachersarealsocrucialtosustainablerecoveryandgrowthinpost-conflictandemergencysituations.Weespeciallyhonourthememoryandcommitmentofthoseteacherswhohavelosttheirlivesinemergencysituations.

Teachersprovidecontinuityandreassurance,bothduringandafternaturaldisastersandothercrises.Bygivinghopeforthefuture,theyhelptomitigatetheeffectsofconflict,disasteranddisplacement.Theyprovidemuch-neededpsycho-socialsupporttoeasethetraumaofchildrenandyouthwhohavewitnessedextremeviolence,orlivedthroughthedestructionoftheirhomesandthelossoffamilymembers.Supportingteachersinpost-crisissituationsisaninvestmentinpeaceanddevelopment.Lowstatus,lowsalaryandpoorworkingconditionsinfringeontherightsofteacherswhilstdiscouragingtalentedyoungpeoplefromjoiningandremainingintheteachingprofession.
