andgoesthroughhislifesufferinglotsofsadness.HeisinlovewithagirlnamedEstellaandwantshertofindhislove,butforhimbeingshyandnotshowinghimselftoher,itmakesitveryhardforhim.GreatExpectationswasthepenultimatenovelpletedbythemostpopularnovelistofVictorianEngland,

CharlesDickens.BorninKent,England,in1812toafamilyofmodestmeansbutgreatpretensions,

Dickens’searlylifewasmarkedbybothhumiliationandambition.Dickensneverforgottheperiodoffinancialcrisisduringhischildhood,whenfollowinghisfather’sbankruptcy,

hewastakenoutofschoolandforcedtoworkinashoepolishwarehouse.Pipmeetsanescapedconvict,Magwitch,andgiveshimfood,

thosewordsandsentencesaresobeautifulandmeaningfulthatIeventookthemdowncarefullyinmynotebook.Byreadingthemnolessthanthreetimes,Ihavelearnednotonlysomenewphrasesandsentences,butalsoaphilosophyoflife.Amongthecharacters,whichimpressedmemostarenotPipandEstellawhoshouldberegardedastheleadingroles,butJoeandMagwitch.IfeelawfullysorrythatIwasnotbraveenoughtoreadtheoriginaleditionthatisasthickasabrick.Otherwise,ImayappreciateJoeandMagwitchmore.Yes,theyarenotthemaincharactersinthenovel.However,

whattheysaidandwhattheydiddeeplytouchedme.It’sinteresting,isn’tit?Theyarequitetheoppositeguys.Oneisatotallygoodmanwithouttheleastbitofwickednesswhiletheotherisaprisonerwhoisbelievedtohavemittedeveryevil.IbelievethateveryonewhoreadsthebookistolikeJoe.Whenhetalkedabouthisheavydrinkingfatherwhohithimalot,hesaidhehadalotoflove.Facedwithhisrudewife,

hewouldratherseemabitweakorfoolishthanstanduptoherandfightforhimself.KnowingpeacockishPipwasashamedofhisuneducatedmanners,

heusesonlyverysubtleforeshadowingsothatwelearnofeventsonlywhenthePipinthestorydoes.Pipdoes,however,usetheperspectiveofthebitterlessonshe'slearnedtomentacidlyonvariousactionsandattitudesinhisearlierlife.Iknowhowtofullyunderstandthisnovel,twiceisfarfromenough.Pip,Estella,MissHavisham,
