singlecopiesonthestreet.

Thisdevelopmentdidnottakeplaceovernight.Ithadbeenpossible(butnoteasy)tobuysinglecopiesof

newspapersbefore1830,butthisusuallymeantthereaderhadtogodowntotheprinter'sofficetopurchaseacopy.

Streetsaleswerealmostunknown.However,withinafewyears,streetsalesofnewspaperswouldbecommonplace

ineasterncities.Atfirstthepriceofsinglecopieswasseldomapenny一usuallytwoorthreecentswascharged-
