4.AirPollution
Airpollutionisoneofthemajorproblemsofthemodernworld.Agreat
dealofenergyisneededtorunthefactoriesofmodernindustrialnations.
Automobile,trains,planesandbussesneedenergy,too.Nearlyallofthis
energyisproducedbyburningfuels.Theburningproduceswastes,some
ofwhichremainintheair,causingairpollution.
Scientistsarefindingwaystostopairpollutionespeciallyinbig
industrialareasanddensely-populatedcities.Theyarestudyingnewways
ofgeneratingelectricitythatmaybelessdamagingtotheenvironment.

5.EnvironmentalProtection

crowded.Weareusingupournaturalresourcesandatthesametime
pollutingourenvironmentwithdangerouschemicals.Ifwecontinuetodo
this,lifeonearthcannotsurvive.
Concernedpeoplehavemadesomeprogressinenvironmentalprotection.
Governmentsofmanycountrieshaveestablishedlawstoprotecttheair,

vitalpartinthedailyactivitiesofhumansociety.Industryneeds

drivepeopletoandfromwork.Onweekendsautomobilestakefamiliesfor
joyfuloutings.Andduringholidayseasons,automobilesfillthehighways
everywhere,eveninremoteareas.Itcouldbesaidthatthewheelsof
automobilesmovesocietyforward.
Butautomobileshavealsogivenrisetoaseriesofproblems.Forexample,
citiesareovercrowdedwithautomobiles.Theycreatealotofnoiseand
trafficaccidentswhichdisable(傷殘)orkillmanypeopleeachyear.
Worstofallperhapsistheairpollutioncausedbytheexhaustgases
producedbyautomobiles.Someofthegasesarehighlytoxic(有毒的)and
aserioushealthhazard.
7.Computer
Thecomputeriswidelyusedinallfieldsofsociety.Today,whereveryou
go,youwillfindcomputersbeingused.Forexample,computersareused
inuniversities,largecorporations,andsmalloffices,etc.Ithaseven
enteredthehomesofordinarypeople.Asitisabletostoreandprocess
alargeamountofinformation,thecomputerbringaboutgreatconvenience
andhighefficiencytopeopleofallwalksoflife.
Computerscanhelppeopleindifferentways.Forexample,computerhelp

inthepastfewdecadestoraiseitsoutputofcoalandpetroleum.
Threeenergyresourcesarebeinguseduprapidly,Withthebuildingof
fourmodernization,newindustrialandscienceprojectsarespringingup
likebambooshootsafterrain.Theyareallbigconsumersofenergy
resources.Besidestherehasbeenconsiderablewasteintheutilization
oftheseresources.

Withmoney,theycanbutnice,largeapartmentsinniceneighborhood;with

Inmyopinion,peoplecannotdoanythingwithoutmoney,butmoneyisnot
everything.Whatmoneywillbringyoudependsonyourpersonalbeliefand
goalinlife.Ifyouarekindenoughtohelpothers,especiallythepoor,
moneyisagoodthingtoyou.Withit,youcandomuchmoreforthebenefit
ofpeopleandyourcountry,anditwillandtoyourownhappiness.Ifyou
wantmoneyjustforyourownneeds,you'11neverbesatisfiedorhappy.
Inaword,youshouldhavemoneyspentformorepeople,onlythencanmoney
bethesourceofyourhappiness.
18.Ideals
Everyonehashisideals.Abusinessmanwishestomakegreaterprofit;a
farmerexpectsbumperharvests;astudenttriestolearnmoreandbetter.

Oneshouldbesensibleaboutwhetherhisidealiswellfoundedornot.
