Onespring,GuanZhongandXiPengfollowedHuanGong,Kingof

wardidntcometoanenduntilwinter.Ontheirwayback,theylost

theirway.GuanZhongsaid:

有一年春天，管仲、曝朋跟隨齊桓公討伐孤竹國。戰(zhàn)爭持續(xù)到冬天才結

束。返回時，他們迷路了。管仲說：

“Oldhorsesarewiseanimalswhoknowtheirway.Letthemlead

thewayforus!〃

〃老馬是一種有智慧的動物，能認路，讓老馬來給我們帶路吧!〃

Thereupon,theyletseveraloldhorsesleadinfrontandthearmy

followedbehind.Finallytheyfoundtheirwayhome.

Whenthearmyenteredthehills,theyranoutofwater.ThenXi

Pengsaid:

于是，他們就讓幾匹老馬走在前面，軍隊尾隨在后，終于踏上了歸途。

“Inwinter,theantsstayonthesouthsideofahill,andinsummer,

onthenorthside.Thereissuretobewatersourceundertheirnest.”

軍隊走進山里，水沒有了。這時限朋說：

Thereupon,thesoldiersexertedstrenuouseffortstodigthe

“螞蟻冬天住在向陽坡，夏天住在背陰坡，螞蟻窩的下面一定有水源。〃

于是，士兵們奮力挖土，果然在螞蟻窩的下面挖到了水。

人類的馬和螞蟻來解決問題。

:濫竽充數

戰(zhàn)國時期齊國的齊宣王喜歡欣賞吹竿，特別愛聽合奏。

ofQioftenorderedthisbandtoplayforhim.

王宮里，專門有個吹竿的樂隊，足足有三百人。齊宣王常常叫這個三百

人的樂隊為他演奏。

ofKingXuanshobby,hevolunteeredhisserviceandbraggedabout

howwellhecouldplay.Heaskedforpermissiontoplayfortheking

withotherplayers.KingXuanwasverygladtohearthisandgranted

hisrequest.

有一個名叫南郭的人，不會吹竿。但是，當他了解了齊宣王的這個嗜好

以后，就毛遂自薦，吹噓自己吹竿吹得如何好，請求跟別的樂師一道為大

王演奏。齊宣王聽了非常高興，批準了他的要求。

Thereupon,ineachperformancehewouldminglewithothers,put

onanact,playatrandom,andswindledthesameamountof

remunerationaspaidtoothers.Inthisway,hedriftedalongtill

KingXuanofQidied.

于是，每次演奏時，他混在里面，裝模作樣，胡亂地吹奏一番，卻騙得

了跟別人同樣的報酬。就這樣，他一直混到齊宣王去世。

AfterKingXuanofQidied,KingMinsucceededtothethrone.

齊宣王死后，滑王繼位。

Underhisfathersinfluence,KingMinalsolovedtolistentothe

yu.Theonlydifferencewasthathelikedtolistentosolos,not

ensembles.KingMinproclaimedthattheplayersmustperformone

byoneforhim.

齊洛王受父親的影響，也喜歡欣賞吹竿。不同的是，齊滑王只愛聽獨奏,

不愛聽合奏?；跣迹蹈偷臉穾煴仨氁粋€一個地為他演奏。

WhenNanGuoheardofthis,hewasafraid.Heknewhecouldnot

driftalonganylonger,sohesneakedawaythatverynight.

南郭先生一聽就害怕了，知道自己再也混不下去，只好連夜溜走了。

：不死之藥

MedicineforImmortality

Therewas,amanwhocametothepalaceoftheStateofChuand

gavetheguardakindofmedicineforimmortalitytobepresented

totheking.

有一個人來到楚國王宮，把一種長生不死的藥交給守衛(wèi)官，請他敬獻給

國王。

Astheguardheldthemedicineinbothhandsandwalkedtowards

theinnerpalace,hemetanarcherofthebodyguard.Thearcherasked

him:

守衛(wèi)官捧著藥朝內宮走去，迎面碰上衛(wèi)隊的一個弓箭手。弓箭手問他：

〃Iswhatyouholdinhandsedible?”

〃你手里捧的東西，人可以吃嗎?〃

Theguardanswered:

守衛(wèi)官回答：

〃0fcourse,itis.〃

〃人可以吃?！?/p>

Uponhearingthis,thearchersnatchedthemedicine,stuffedit

intohismouthandswallowedit.

弓箭手聽了，一把奪過藥，塞到嘴里就吞了下去。

TheKingofChuwasveryangry.Heorderedtohavethearcher

beheaded.Thearchersaid:

楚王非常生氣，下令將這個弓箭手斬首。弓箭手說：

〃Itisnotmyfaultbutthefaultoftheguard,becausehetold

meItisedible.〃

〃這不是我的過錯，而是守衛(wèi)官的過錯，因為他回答我人可以吃?！?，

Thenhecontinued:

又說：

“Thisisamedicineforimmortallife.NowIhavetakenit,but

IamgoingtobekilledbyYourMajesty.Then,theso-calledmedicine

forimmortallifewillbecomeamedicinehasteningdeath,wontit?

ThemanwhopresentedthismedicinewastryingtodeceiveYour

Majesty.〃

“這是不死之藥，現(xiàn)在我吃了，反而要被大王處死;那么，這不死之藥，

不就成了催死之藥了嗎?這是獻藥的人在欺騙大王呀！”

Finallyhesaid:

最后說:

“IftodayYourMajestyshouldkillme,aninnocentman,thenpeople

wouldsay:TheKingwouldratherbedeceived
