Becauseittakesabout35yearsforamaleelephanttoattainthesizeandexperiencetobreedannually,the

majorityofcalvesarefatheredbythesamefewoldermalessoughtbyhunters.Theseolderanimalsalsoformthe

corestructureofmalesociety,initiatingandcoordinatingthemovementsandactivitiesofcloselybonded
