ok.Ontheotherhand,hisspiritualworldisinnocent,hehatesallphonythingswhileseekssincerityandloveandhehimselfisapersonfulloflove.Heloveschildren,becausechildrenfromfallingintothecliffreferringtotheadultworldwhichheassociateswithhypocrisyandugliness.Hedoesn’twantchildrentostepintotheadultworld;hewantsthemtostayinnocentforever.Thatiswhywhenheseestheword“fuckyou”onthewallofPhoebe’sschoolheissoangrythatheevenwantstokilltheguywhowroteit.Hisdegenerationisinessenceakindofresistance,becausehedoesn’twanttowallowinmirewiththoseguyshedespises.“Anyway,Ikeeppicturingalltheselittlekidsplayingsomegameinthisbigfieldofryeandall.Thousandsoflittlekids,andnobody'saround--nobodybig,Imean--exceptme.AndI'mstandingontheedgeofsomecrazycliff.WhatIhavetodo,Ihavetocatcheverybodyiftheystarttogooverthecliff--Imeanifthey'rerunningandtheydon'tlookwherethey'regoingIhavetocomeoutfromsomewhereandcatchthem.That'sallI'ddoallday.I'djustbethecatcherintheryeandall.Iknowit'scrazy,butthat'stheonlythingI'dreallyliketobe.”Thisparagraphisthemostfamouspartfromthestory.Andtosomeextent,itreflectswhythebookisnamedbyCatcherintherye.Holdenwasthoseofaverytroubledpersonwhodeservedoursympathymoreoftenthanourpraise.AcloselookatwhatHoldendid,nonetheless,revealedthathepossessedverystrongmoral,compassionateinstincts.ThoughHoldenstruggledagainsteverything,evenleftawayfromtherealworld,hechoosetoadjustedhimselftoaccepttherealworldtobeacatcherinthereallife.TheCatcherintheRyeleftmanyusefulpointstousforcogitation.Th
