Come and get it!: The food is ready to eat and it is on the table so hurry and come to the table! Chow down!: Eat the food in front of you. Lets get some grub!: Lets go and ea

5、tes to an hour around 12pm/noon Quick and light food, something that can be eaten “on the run” or at your desk. I.e.: Sandwich & potato chips, salad, burger & fries, soda or ice tea no alcohol Small portions,Grab it and go - Lunch time !,Dinner After work or school around 7pm. A time to get together
6、 and relax. Heavier, rich food that is more fulfilling. Eating dinner normally lasts around an hour or hour and a half. Includes: appetizer, soup/salad, meat, bread, 2 vegetables and drink. I.e.: Mexican food Enchiladas with rice Fried/baked chicken w/salad & veggies. It is ok to drink alcohol with

A combination of breakfast & lunch foods.,Friday & Saturday nights A time during the week to “treat” eac
8、h other to a special dinner. Relaxing and very elegant.,Food that is typically / normally eaten in America:,Meats: Chicken, beef, pork (Mutton is not available.) Seafood is only eaten in the coastal regions i.e.: California, Florida we only eat the shoulder, ribs, flanks, rumps, and chest the very m

Method of cooking depends on the region: frying, boiling, sauting, baking or grilling.,Vegetables Veggies: Green beans, potatoes, carrots, eggplant, mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, & spinach. Method of cooking: baking, steaming, sauting or boiling.,Fruits:
10、 Bananas, Apples, oranges Other fruit is seasonal (can only buy it at certain times of the year): strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, kiwi and berries.,Tid-Bits of information,Bread, in some form, is served with every meal Rice is only served with particular dishes, not at every lunch or dinner,St
11、aple foods (most poplar/available foods that Americans rely on.) Chicken, beef, potatoes, carrots, bread.,Cooking Tips 101:,Frying & baking are the most popular methods. Grilling, sauting (quick frying), boiling and steaming are also used. Americans cook with vegetable oil, olive oil and butter. We
12、dont cook with peanut oil, sesame oil or fish oil because too many people are allergic to these oils/food items.,Eating at a restaurant,Always leave the waitress/waiter a tip-10 to 20% Americans eat out at least 3 times a week - “Time is money!”,Costs, on average $20 USD per meal - LARGE portions of

Each person orders their own plate of food.,Ordering food at a restaurant:,Appetizers & drinks (finger foods) Soup/salad (Salads are normally green) Entre (The meat, veggies & bread) Coffee & Dessert,Eating at someones home:,Ask if you can help in the preparation of the food or set
14、ting the table. Use the fork, spoon and knife provided most Americans dont have chopsticks. Dont over fill your plate, you can ask for “seconds” if you are still hungry. This actually tells the cook that you like their food. If the host asks you to eat more and you are full or dont like the food say
15、, “No thank you, Im stuffed.” Or “Thank you but Im full.” This is the most polite way of saying “no” If you dont want to eat something or it doesnt taste good to you, just leave it on your plate. Always offer to help clean up the dishes and or table.,Styles of cooking:,Home style more traditional Am
16、erican food. I.e.: casseroles, beef, boiled food, very little seasoning. Regions: Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Carolinas, Virginia, Utah, etc. Southern style Deep fried food, spicy food, very heavy, hearty food. I.e.: fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried bread, pies. Regions: Texas, Arizona, Louisia

Gourmet style Rich food, small portions, contains unusual meats and vegetables, uses heavy sauces, beautifully presented food Regions: Washington, D.C., New York City & LA Light style Meat and veggies are steamed or grilled, light favor, uses a lot of lemon, uses little or olive oil.
