The stories say he saved sailors from storms, helped young children and gave gifts to the poor. Everyone loved Saint Nicholas. His name was famous in Europe. In Germany, he was called Sankt Nikolaus and in Holland, Sinter Klaas. In the 1600s,people from Holland brought the stories of Sinter Klaas to North America. In North America, his name changed.
