The Varkey Foundation is a non-for-profit organization set up to improve the standards of education for poor children all over the world. It surveyed 20,000 young people who were born between 1995 to 2001 in 20 countries. They were asked questions about their hopes, personal ideas and community values. It was found that 53% of those questioned in China thought the world was becoming a better placethe highest among the countries surveyed. Some 93% of them also felt hopeful for the future because of the development in technology, such as in medicine, renewable energy and computing. However, young people in France, Italy and Turkey had a pessimistic outlook on the future.“At present, most people pay more attention to the differences between people. The fact shows that young people share many similar ideas of the world.” Pota, the CEO of the Varkey Foundation, told The Guardian(衛(wèi)報(bào)).As for young people in China, what they fear most is the environmental problemssome 82% of those who were surveyed said so. Pota said it was encouraging that young people in China were aware how serious the environmental problems are. The final survey showed a sense of optimism in the attitudes and opinions of the generation that is likely to shape the next tens of years, according to Pota.“They are more likely to travel, to move across borders(邊境) and to build friendships in other countries than their parents,” he said.21.Is China an emerging country?22.What is the Varkey Foundation?23.How do young people in France think of the future?24.What do young people in China fear most?25.Whats your opinion for the future?
