These people are called vegetarians(素食主義者). To people who eat meat, being a vegetarian may seem like a very strange thing. But they wont eat meat for several different reasons.First, vegetarians have a big health advantage. One of the major health problems in modern world is too much food, especially in the form of animal fats. Medical study suggests that animal fats, including butter, quicken the development of cholesterol (膽固醇) in the human body. Too much cholesterol seems to be part of the cause of heart disease. Most vegetarians have low level of cholesterol. Too much animal fats also seem to lead to certain kinds of cancer, and vegetarians have less these cancers than people who eat a lot of meat. Overall, studies comparing the health of vegetarians and meat-eaters show that the meat-eaters are twice as likely to die of heart disease as vegetarians are. Better health is one reason that people choose to become vegetarians. Another reason is religion (宗教). Eating of meat is never allowed in some religions. The largest of these is the Hindu religion, which has about.600 million believers in the world. Although not all Hindus are vegetarian, many are, and there are many believers of other religions, such as Buddhism and even some Christian religions that also do not eat meat. Many vegetarians do not eat meat simply because they do not like the taste of it. They have no religious or other reasons; they just do not like meat. Another important reason that vegetarians give for not eating meat is the health advantages that were given above. Lastly, there are many people who do not eat meat because they just do not like the idea of killing animals for food. They believe that life, all life, is valuable and that we do not have to destroy life to feed ourselves when there are other good sources of food.IntroductionVegetariansVegetarians are people who_eat meat_why people become vegetariansA health_Animal fat makes the _of cholesterol faster.Vegetarians are _likely to have cancers or heart disease than meat-eater.ReligionsSome religions dont _believers to eat meat ,such _the Hindu ReligionsDislike of meatMany people dislike the _of meatLove for animalsMany people hate _animals or food .They think its_to destroy life for food三、 完形填空 (共1題;共1分)7. (5分)閱讀短文,回答問題。(每題答案不超過6個(gè)詞) With their long tusks (象牙), elephants look strong. However, it is this feature that makes the animal endangered. Many of them are killed for their tusks. People make elephant tusks into crafts (工藝品) and jewelry and sell them to rich people. But can these priceless body parts grow back? The answer is no, Live Science said. The elephants tusks are actually part of their teeth. Nearly all African elephants and most male Asian elephants have these long teeth. About one-third of the tusk is in the animals skull (頭骨). The tusk has a nerve (神經(jīng)) running down its center. This makes it similar to your teeth. Once you lose a tooth, you will never grow a new one.Elephants use their tusks to protect themselves, lift things, dig water and gather food. But losing the tusk will not kill them. The way in which they lose the tusk is what matters. Usually, people get tusks by culling (限量捕殺), which means killing old and weak elephants. They also take tusks from the elephants that have died naturally. However, these sources arent enough to keep up with the demand for ivory. Therefore, some poachers (偷獵者) kill healthy elephants and cut their faces open to remove the tusks. About 27,000 elephants are killed by poachers each year, according to National Geographic. As a result of poaching, some African elephants gradually evolved (進(jìn)化) without tusks, which has allowed them to survive.
