文檔簡介

Several weeks ago, our headmaster, Mr. Gaudi, told usthat our school had been chosen to compete on Smart Alecka game show which my best friend Carla and I both love. Carla has a good imagination, and I know a lot of history, so we thought wed be good _35 choices _ for the team.A few days later, Mr. Gaudi held a meeting with everyone interested in the_36_ show _ . He told us that Smart Aleck uses a five member team. He also said that three more people would be needed as backup(替補). Unluckily four times that many students were at the meeting. So Mr. Gaudi said we would have a _37 competition _ and the top eight scorers would become the team and the backup.Everybody agreed that this was a _38.fair_ way to decide.Yesterday, all of the hopefuls went to the dining hall after school. We would have to decide the starting line-up(陣容).Mr. Gaudi acted as the host. After a couple of hours, all the _39 places _ on the team were set except one. Carla and I _40 tied_ for that last position. We had to hold a one-on-one competition between the two of us.The winner would be on the team and the loser would be the backup.Midway through our two-person competition,I was starting to pull ahead._41.Then _ I saw the look on Carlas face.I waited for a second and knew what I had to do.As much as I wanted to be on Smart Aleck,Carla wanted _42 it_ even more. So,starting with my next question,I held back and let Carla _43 win _,just by a little bit.Her expression as she _44 realized _ she would be on the show made up for my not being on the team. And since I will go as backup,Ill still have the fun of seeing the show up close. Was I _45 cheating _ by not trying as hard as I could?I dont think so.No one noticed, and Carla and I didnt _46 plan _ it.It wont hurt the team because Carla will be a very good competitor on the real show.I think that making my best friend happy was the right thing to do.35. When a bird sees one,and begins to attack it,the butterfly will open its Wings. The bird thinks that it sees two eyes staring at it,frightened, and flies away66The female butterflies have bigger and heavier bodies than the males because _Athe females carry the eggs Bthe females eat moreCthe males are more active Dthe males have smaller wings67.The duller colors of the female butterflies _ .Ahelp to fly easily Bhelp to attract the malesCmake them look fearful Dmake them harder to be caught68The underlined word“that”in Paragraph 3 refer to_Atheir wings Bpattern colorsCgreen leaves Dsome butterflies69when run after by a bird, the Dead Leaf Butterfly _.Ais frightened and flies away at once Bopens its eyes and stares at the birdCcloses its wings and seems to have gone Dopens its wings to frighten the bird away70The last paragraph mainly tells US_Awhy the butterfly can not be seen Bhow the butterfly opens its wingsCwhat the round marks look like D. what the function of the round marks isDMany women write to me confused about why they cant form close friendships. They try new approaches, put themselves in all the right places, see therapists, and read relevant self-help books. They consider themselves interesting, loyal, kind and friend-worthy people. But for reasons unknown to them, they have a tough time forming close relationships. Many admit to not having even one close friend.2A recent study published in the Journal of personality and Social Psychology offers some clues as to how both nature (personality) and nurture (experience) impact our friendships. Researchers at the University of Virginia and University of Toronto, Mississauga studied more than 7,000 American adults between the ages of 20 and 75 over a period of ten years, looking at the number of times these adults moved during childhood. Their study, like prior ones, showed a link between moves and adult well-being: The more times participants moved as children, the poorer the quality of their adult social relationships.3But digging deeper, the researchers found that personality-specifically being introverted(內(nèi)向的) or extroverted(外向的)could either strengthen or weaken the effect of moving to a new town or neighborhood during childhood. The negative impact of more moves during childhood was far greater for introverts compared to extroverts.4“Moving a lot makes it difficult for people to maintain long-te
