1、Lesson 1 A puma at largePumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. When reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five miles south of London, they were not taken seriously. However, as the evidence began to accumulate, experts from the Zoo felt obliged t

2、o investigate, for the descriptions given by people who claimed to have seen the puma were extraordinarily similar. The hunt for the puma began in a small village where a woman picking blackberries saw 'a large cat' only five yards away from her. It immediately ran away when she saw it, and

3、experts confirmed that a puma will not attack a human being unless it is cornered. The search proved difficult, for the puma was often observed at one place in the morning and at another place twenty miles away in the evening. Wherever it went, it left behind it a trail of dead deer and small animal

4、s like rabbits. Paw prints were seen in a number of places and puma fur was found clinging to bushes. Several people complained of 'cat-like noises' at night and a businessman on a fishing trip saw the puma up a tree. The experts were now fully convinced that the animal was a puma, but where

5、 had it come from? As no pumas had been reported missing from any zoo in the country, this one must have been in the possession of a private collector and somehow managed to escape. The hunt went on for several weeks, but the puma was not caught. It is disturbing to think that a dangerous wild anima

15、特殊結(jié)構(gòu):被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)現(xiàn)在分詞e.g. puma fur was found clinging to bushes 現(xiàn)在分詞clinging起補(bǔ)充說(shuō)明主語(yǔ)的作用3,定語(yǔ)從句和同位語(yǔ)從句 一般來(lái)講, 定語(yǔ)從句和同位語(yǔ)從句緊隨在被修飾名詞后面,但為了保持句子平衡,也可把謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞放到從句之前。讓我們來(lái)看兩個(gè)文中的例子: (1)Pumas are large, cat-like animals which are found in America. (2)Reports came into London Zoo that a wild puma had been spotted forty-five mi

16、les south of London. 現(xiàn)在讓我們來(lái)回顧下兩種從句的區(qū)別: (1) 定語(yǔ)從句只是對(duì)于被修飾詞的補(bǔ)充說(shuō)明、修飾。定語(yǔ)從句的引導(dǎo)詞:指人:主語(yǔ) who; 賓語(yǔ) who/whom; 定語(yǔ) whose表達(dá)事物:that(也可指人)/ which時(shí)間狀語(yǔ):when; 地點(diǎn)狀語(yǔ):where; 原因狀語(yǔ): why(2) 同位語(yǔ)從句則是講述被修飾名詞的內(nèi)容同位語(yǔ)從句的引導(dǎo)詞:名詞做主語(yǔ)、賓語(yǔ)時(shí),關(guān)系詞用that 而不是which時(shí)間 when; 地點(diǎn) wheree.g. I have no idea what has happened to him.大家學(xué)的怎么樣?我們來(lái)測(cè)試一下吧 Exer
