6、ge on the history of English literature between 18th century and 20th century and their skills on literary readings and critical analysis of the literary works. Through critical reading and writing students can obtain broad information of genre, culture, schools, authors, works, etc. in literature.

7、Course Requirement and Evaluation:Students final grades are decided by the evaluation of following requirements:A.100x30%:1. Attendance and Participation (40%): Students attendance and participation are the basic guarantee for the fulfillment of their tasks. Thus, one absence of class results in 5%

8、reduction of total points. If a student's absence from class without good excuses reaches one third of attendance by the end of semester, he/she fails the class. Students are required to prepare the questions before they come to class and to be active in class discussion.2. Group Presentation (3

9、0%): The average group presentation (TWO students as a group) is expected to finish within 15 minutes. The possibilities of grading this presentation include: 1) useful content, 2) good performance, 3) good cooperation, and 4) within time period.3. Essay Question (30%): Students are supposed to writ

10、e ONE short essay based on any question (definitions of terms excluded) listed for the course and hand it in before the class concerned. It will not be accepted after the class. “Essay Question” and the question are supposed to appear in your paper.B. 100x70%:4. Critical Essay (30%): Students will w

11、rite ONE critical essay showing your critical thinking and your ability of arguments, illustration etc. on anything you learn in this class and hand it in before the class concerned. It will not be accepted after the class. “Critical Essay” is supposed to appear in your paper.5. Final Paper Proposal

12、 (10%): Students will write a proposal which should include title and the thesis statement, which introduces the main ideas of the paper and its structure. The 10 points will be included in the final paper.6. Final Paper (60%): Students are required to write a final paper on any literary work chosen

13、 for the course. The paper is supposed to be focused on one topic of literary criticism (4-5 pages, double-spaced). The final paper is due before the last class.Course Schedule:1st Week: 1.
