8、ector of the Euromediterranean Center for Climate Change, the Italian organization for climate simulations and scenarios. He holds a PhD in Geophysical Fluid Dynamics from Princeton University He is Dirigente di Ricerca at the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia in Italy. He is a climate
9、scientist with a long international experience in numerical simulation and dynamics Dr Marc Vielle has obtained a PhD degree in economics from the University Panthon-Sorbonne (Paris). He worked as an economic researcher at the Laboratoire ERASME of Ecole Centrale de Paris and Universit de Paris I (1
10、987-1992), where he developed and operated the macroeconomic model HERMES-France. In 1991 he joined the Commissariat lEnergie Atomique (CEA) as senior economist where he participated in the development of two models (GEM-E3 and PRIMES) funded by the European Commission. In 1996 he joined the Institu
11、t dEconomie Industrielle of Toulouse directed by Jean-Jacques Laffont. In 2003 he joined the Laboratoire dEconomie des Ressources Naturelles. Since 1995, he is member of the GEMINI-E3 team and participates in the development of the world general equilibrium model GEMINI-E3. He is now Senior Economis
12、t at Ecole Polytechnique Fdrale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Toulouse School of Economics (TSE).Marc Vielle has a strong experience in economic modelling, quantitative analysis, energy and climate change policies. He is now involved in the TOCSIN (Technology-Oriented Cooperation and Strategies in India an
13、d China) project funded by the European Commission. This research evaluates climate change mitigation options in China and India and the conditions for a strategic cooperation on RD&D and technology transfer with EU.Dr Michael OBERSTEINER has an academic background in Forestry and Economics. Special
14、ization in Global Land Use modelling involving spatially explicit agriculture, forestry, biomass and environmental sector analysis of global and climate change. Second specialization is in stochastic energy systems modelling involving real options and portfolio techniques.Dr Darryn McEvoy, is a qual
15、ified geographer, with an interest in interdisciplinary action research, and has experience of both the mitigation and adaptation agendas. Following his doctoral research experience, he authenticated the first Greenhouse Gas Inventory for the North West region of England (2000) and was one of the le
16、ad authors for the report Area-based Carbon Emissions Reduction, commissioned by the UK Sustainable Development Commission in 2002. His research activity now focuses primarily on climate change adaptation, with consideration of the implications for sustainable development. Previously, he was researc
17、h manager for two climate change adaptation projects in the UK. One was on Adaptation Strategies for Climate Change in the Urban Environment (ASCCUE); the other Climate Change and the Visitor Economy (CCVE), which focused on tourism and recreation in the North West region of England (investigating t
18、he interaction between climate change, visitor behaviour and environmental capacity). Currently, Darryn acts as a senior researcher on the EU consortium project ADAM (ADaptation And Mitigation strategies: supporting European climate policy) with personal responsibilityProfessor David J Rogers MA D.P
19、hil. (Oxon),Professor of Ecology, University of Oxford,Entomologist, ecologist and epidemiologist, with interests in vector-borne diseases, especially in the tropics. My first research interest in this area concerned the African trypanosomiasis, but has since extended to many other diseases. In the
20、last 10 years I have been applying remotely sensed satellite data to describing the distribution and abundance of many organisms, including vectors of disease and the incidence and prevalence of the diseases they transmit. As a biologist I am also interested in using the same techniques to map biodi
21、versity. My research group at Oxford is particularly interested in developing global risk maps for several disease, including yellow fever, dengue, the leishmaniases, plague, tularemia, CCHF and H5N1; close collaborators in Oxford are redefining the global risk of the different forms of human malari
22、a. I personally enjoy the research challenge of developing new analytical techniques and new modelling approaches to these very important problems.I am Chair of the Steering Committee of the EU Framework 6 Project “Emerging Diseases in a Changing European Environment” (EDEN) which was the brain-chil
23、d of three French Institutes, CIRAD, IRD and the Institute Pasteur in Paris. EDEN is a collaborative partnership involving more than 80 colleagues (and their colleagues and students) in more than 40 institutes in 24 countries of both old and new Europe, and beyond (we also have African partners in E
24、DEN). EDEN has selected a variety of vector- or rodent-borne diseases for study the idea being that such diseases, with their climate-sensitive vectors will be amongst the first to respond to local environmental and climatic changes. These diseases are malaria, West Nile Virus, Leishmaniasis, Tick-b
25、orne diseases (specifically TBE and Lyme disease), Rift Valley Fever (Africa Platform) and the hantaviruses. these problems. Dr. Schanze is head of the research area environmental risk in urban and regional development“ at the Leibniz Institute of Ecological and Regional Development, lecturer at the
26、 Technische Universitt Dresden and member of the board of directors and scientific coordinator of the Dresden Flood Research Center (D-FRC). Research and teaching fields are theories and methodologies of risk management and environmental development. Major interest refers to the integration of knowl
27、edge from natural and social science to support decision making and strategic planning. Thematic focus lies on flood risk management and adaptation to climate change. He is being involved in a number of EU and national research projects like FLOODsite, SCENARIO, URBEM, VERIS-Elbe. Dr. Schanze is ass
28、ociate editor of the new Journal of Flood Risk Management as well as author and editor of more than 120 papers and books.
