The accident involved a winch man, who was struck and wounded at his left shoulder while lifting cargo and likely received fracture.3. My ships doctor suggested me that the injured person be sent ashore to a reliable hospital for operation.5. 18、ng at your port, one stevedore by the name of Hillman, aged 34, accidentally fell from the hatchway of No.3 hatch tweendeck into lower hold, and seriously injured his head and became unconscious at that moment. The occurrence was reported to me instantly. Being given first-aid treatment by ships doc
19、tor, the injured person, accompanied by the doctor, was taken by an ambulance to the near hospital for treatment. While the next day the ships doctor phoned me that unfortunately the aforesaid stevedore had died of the extremely serious injury in five hours after the operation. So far as I know, the
20、 aforesaid mishap was solely due to the his own fault. I hereby state that my ship is not in any way responsible for it. 51、nvestigation show that owing to dash there were two cracks in the wall of the wharf, some surface cement came off the wall and one pillar was slightly damaged because of the suddent dash. Afterwards, the port authority claimed U.S.$ 30,000 of compensation from the shipowner for the said damage. Howe
52、ver, the master of M.V. “A” was of the opinion as follows: This accident was solely due to the fault on the part of the tugs in that their walkie-talkie were out of function in berthing communication and the tugs failed to follow the pilots order to stop their engine immediately. Under such circumst
53、ances, there were no reson for the shipowner to bear the unfair compensation.
