Watch a good teacher, and you will see that he does not sit motionless before his class: he stands the whole time he is teaching; he walks about, using his arms, hands and fingers to help him in his explanations, and his face to express feelings. Watch a good policeman,

4、 and you will see that he does not stand motionless in the street: he walks the whole time he is on duty; he scans around, his head swiveling vigilantly and his eyes fixing at any suspect. l The fact that a good teacher has some of the gifts of a good actor doesnt mean that he will indeed be able to

5、 act well on the stage, for there are very important differences between the teachers work and the actors. The fact that a good basketball player has some of the gifts of a good football player doesnt mean that he will indeed be able to play well on the football field, for there are very important d

6、ifferences between the basketball players work and the football players. A good teacher works in quite a different way. His audience takes an active part in his play: they ask and answer questions, they obey orders, and if they dont understand something, they say so. The teacher therefore has to sui

7、t his act to the needs of his audience, which is his class. He cannot learn his part by heart, but must invent it as he goes along.l A good chef works in quite a different way. He concerns about the appraisal of his customers they are the judges of his work. Therefore, he has to cook dishes appealin

8、g to their tastes and interest. For a Cantonese customer, he would probably not cook him a hot and spicy dish, and hell be blamed if he offers some pork to a Muslim. “Always at your service” this is the motto of his job. He does not cook whatever he wants to cook because hes waiting for your order.

9、l I have known many teachers who were fine actors in class but were unable to take part in a stage-play because their brains wouldnt keep discipline: they could not keep strictly to what another had written. I have known many learners who were fine painters in the background of society but were unab

10、le to draw a real painting because the meaning and the value of their job is to give all the people a satisfied, pleasing scenery. 技巧l如果是有待分析或爭論的作文題, 都容易展開思路, 有話可寫。 如果題目是一個(gè)公認(rèn)的道理, 不言自明, 應(yīng)當(dāng)如何寫呢?l建議運(yùn)用原意擴(kuò)展的技巧, 把這種技巧發(fā)揮得淋漓盡致。 下面通過分析一篇較典型的范文, 來演示這方面的思路。 lconfidence(信心)的重要性是不言自明的。 但非得把這個(gè)主題演繹為一篇三段式的作文。先考慮用詞。

12、), estimate 既可作動(dòng)詞, 也可作名詞, 還可加前綴變成overestimate(過高估計(jì)) 和underestimate(過低估計(jì)),用起來有聲有色。 Whatever one does, one should do it with confidence. 16、難。 注意這個(gè)結(jié)構(gòu)中加了一個(gè)“among others”, 用兩個(gè)逗號(hào)插在主謂語之間, 一方面表示客觀, 不是認(rèn)為只有兩個(gè)原因, 而是諸般原因中的兩點(diǎn); 另一方面在一個(gè)簡單句中插上一個(gè)短語, 更能展現(xiàn)語言水平。 結(jié)尾段點(diǎn)明作者觀點(diǎn): 對(duì)自己抱正確態(tài)度才能建立信心。然后引述一條俗語, 再對(duì)這條俗語呼應(yīng)一句就結(jié)尾了。l It is possible to build up faith in oneself by having the right attitude towards ones own abilities.
