Left-click “Definition of Reliefs External Rectangle” button and a dialogue pops up, as shown in Figure F3-2. The four parameters listed in the dialogue are respectivel

、y the leftward, upward, rightward and downward bottom clearing scope from around the relief object.3. Carving depth: It means the vertical distance from cutters initial knifepoint to the carved bottom plane after the carvers initial working point has been defined.4. Cutter compensation: To calculate

、 the impact of cutter radius on processing while working on the cutter path, check the box to enable cutter compensation.5. Carving mode: It refers to the carving mode adopted for carvers processing job. It may be horizontal bottom milling, vertical bottom milling, positive-direction 45 bottom milli

、ng, reverse-direction bottom milling, ring-direction bottom milling or outlining.6. Overlapping: It refers the overlapped portion of the path of a cutting motion and the path of its immediately following cutting motion during bottom milling. The more the overlapping value, the more the overlapping a

、nd the higher the accuracy, but more slowly the processing speed. (The scope of this value: 1-99%)7. Cutter parameters: Currently available cutters are listed in the cutter parameters. Specific parameters. To change a cutter, please select “Cutter Selection”.8. Cutter selection: Left-click “Cutter S

、election” to enter cutter library, where parameters for multiple cutters are saved for application. Users can also define new cutters and save them in the library. Enter the cutter library is shown in Figure F3-3.F3-3(1) Artcut system uses four categories of cutters, namely flat cutter, central cutt

、er, straight cutter and ball-base cutter. They are stored in the cutter library of the Artcut system. Users can pick up one of them for use when they are needed. There are also a number of common cutters defined in the cutter library. During application, users can also add new cutters to the library

、.(2) The column of cutter parameters shows the parameters of the currently selected cutter. If a user modifies the parameters in the cutter parameter column, he defines a new cutter by doing so. If he then clicks “OK” to make it effective, the calculation of carving path will follow the new cutter p

、arameters. To modify cutter parameters, it is a must to verify the actually used cutter carefully.(3) Add a new cutter: To add new cutter specifications, modify the parameters in “Cutter Parameters”, for example, you can set the cutter diameter as 6.00 mm and angle as 15, as shown in Figure F3-4.F3-

、4Left-click the “Add Cutter” and a dialogue pops up, as shown in figure F3-5.F3-5If the system automatically specified the name based on cutter parameters, users can define a name and a code for the cutter. For example, you can define the above-mentioned cutter name as: #3 central cutter; cutter dia

、meter 6.00, angle 15.00(4) Delete a cutter: Select the name of the cutter to be deleted from “Cutter Name”, and then left-click “Delete Cutter” button. The selected cutter will be deleted from the cutter library.8. Processing speed: Configuring the desired speed for present processing; the unit is “

、mm/s”.9. Main axis rotating speed: Configuring main axis rotating speed applied during processing.10. Cutter code: This feature can be applied when multiple cutters are used. If the codes of cutters are set, during processing, cutters will be changed in turn for processing according to codes configu

、red.11. Secondary processing: Left-click the box left to “Secondary Processing” to check the box, thus enabling secondary processing. In this way, the carver will proceed with secondary processing after the first processing has been done. The secondary processing may be horizontal bottom milling, ve

、rtical bottom milling, positive-direction 45 bottom milling, reverse-direction bottom milling, ring-direction bottom milling or outlining. If different cutters are to be used in secondary processing, select desired tools in “Select Cutter” option inside the column of secondary processing. The specifi

、c method is similar to the one described above. To use the same cutters for secondary processing, there is no need to re-select cutters.“Overlapping” is for configuring the overlapping parameter for cutters in the secondary processing. By default the parameters for the first processing will be used.

、12. “Carving by Layers” parameter: It refers to maximum depth of each cutter feed. It is possible to carve hard materials and achieve large carving depth by multiple cutting motions. For example, if the total carving depth is 10 mm, and the carving depth for each course is specified as 2 mm, the job

、 will be done by performing 5 carving processes.13. Inlay path: It refers to inlaying of a job reverse to the processed object, for example, if the inlay object is a relief, the reverse processing object is an intaglio. In this case, the inlay carving path will make the contour of the relief smaller

、 than that of the intaglio so that the processed relief can be inlayed into the reverse intaglio. And vice versa, if the object of the inlay path is an intaglio, its reverse processing object will be a relief. In this case, the inlay carving path will make the contour of the intaglio larger than tha

、t of the relief so that the processed intaglio can contain the reverse relief.Effectiveness of inlay path means the path to be generated is the carving path for inlay.14. Linkup configuration: To link up cutoff portions of a character or figure to facilitate output. You may set the desired number and

、 interspace, link length and height value in the linkup configuration.15. Arc-in/arc-out: The path configuration for cutter withdrawal/feeding during output. Here you can set the feeds curve shape, angle, overlapping, etc.16. Tilted cutting: During processing, Axis Z does not directly go downwards; i

、nstead, while the cutter is going downwards, it also moves in Axis X and Axis Y directions. In this way, a slanting path going from shallow to deep depth will be formed. As some originally set data may fail to meet certain calculation conditions (for example: unclosed curve, overlapping of two curves

、, self-section of one curve, etc. may result in incorrect calculation of carving path calculation), Artcut will automatically detect relevant error. However, it is expected that users zoom in to check and verify the calculated carving path before put the carver to work so as to eliminate any possibl

、e error.II. 3D Cutter Carving Path3D carving can achieve pen-up and corner clearing functions in carving process. Artcut software supports application of multiple cutters for 3D processing and carving. For example, you can use a coarse cutter for 2D milling of a large blank area and then use a fine

、cutter for 3D carving and corner clearing. When a coarse cutter is adopted for 2D bottom milling, Artcut software will automatically mill the blank area with optimal efficiency based on cutter parameters; in this way, users do not have to predefine the bottom milling area. For fine portions not mill

、ed by the coarse cutter, fine cutters will be used to achieve 3D corner clearing and pen-up, thus the whole job is done. Therefore, by selecting appropriate processing cutters for 3D carving, it is possible to carve extricate 3D-effect patterns and brush-tipped Chinese characters with high efficienc

、y. However, selection of appropriate cutters depends on practical carving experience.I. Setting Parameters for 3D Carving:Left-click the shortcut for 3D carving to enter the dialogue for calculation of 3D carving path, as shown in Figure F3-6:F3-61. Intaglio: Texts or graphics carved into the surfac

、e of materials.2. Relief: The projection of texts or graphics from a flat background, achieved by removing unwanted parts from the material surface. If relief is selected, it is also necessary to configure the parameter of “Definition of Reliefs External Rectangle”. Left-click “Definition of Reliefs

、 External Rectangle button, and a dialogue pops up, as shown in Figure F3-7. The four parameters listed in the dialogue are respectively the leftward, upward, rightward and downward bottom clearing scope from around the relief object.F3-73. Carving depth: Total depth of carving, unit: mm. It means t

、he vertical distance from cutters initial knifepoint to the utmost carved bottom plane after the carvers initial working point has been defined.4. Cutter compensation: To calculate the impact of cutter radius on processing while it is working on the cutter path, check the box to enable cutter compen

、sation.5. Coarse cutter bottom milling: The left box is an optional box. To enable it, just check the box. If the processed object has a large area, you can enable this option. In this way, firstly coarse cutter is used for 2D bottom milling and then fine cutter is used for 3D carving of details. Th

、e way of bottom milling defined here is perfectly identical with the afore-going 2D carving path. Please refer to the fore-going chapters.Coarse cutter referred to here is relative to finer ones.6. Percentage of repetition: Similar to definition of 2D carving, it refers to overlapped portion of the

、path of a cutting motion and the path of its immediately following cutting motion during bottom milling with a coarse cutter. That is to say, two cutter paths where one immediately follows the other one share some path in common. The percentage of repetition shows the degree of overlapping. The more

、 the overlapping, the higher the accuracy, but more slowly the processing speed. In other words, to enhance levelness of the bottom plane, you can increase this value, and vice versa. (The scope of this value: 1-99%)7. Cutter selection: Including selection of coarse cutter, bottom milling cutter and

、 3D cutter. The definition is similar to the way for cutter selection in calculation of 2D carving path. Please refer to Section 1 for calculation of 2D carving path.8. Processing of isolated spot: Larger closed contours of 3D carving often leave some “isolated spots”. Artcut software is capable of

、apply horizontal bottom milling, longitudinal bottom milling, positive-direction 45 bottom milling and reverse-direction bottom milling to eliminate such isolated spots. While clearing milling bottoms, it is necessary to define its “overlapping percentage”. The concept of overlapping percentage is s

、imilar to that of 2D bottom milling.9. “Carving by Layers” parameter: It refers to maximum depth of each cutter feed. It is possible to carve hard materials and achieve a large carving depth by multiple cutting motions. That is to say, for hard materials needing deep processing, carving is done laye

、r by layer. For example, if the total carving depth is 10 mm, and the carving depth for each course is specified as 2 mm, the job will be done by performing 5 carving processes.10. Inlay path: It refers to inlaying of a job reverse to the processed object. For example, if the inlay object is a relief, the reverse processing object is an intaglio. In this case, the i
