The problem has already affected a large number of students: 36% of primary school students, more than 70% of junior high students and over 80% of senior high students

15、 suffer from short-sightedness.What causes short-sightedness is not fully understood, although children may be at greater risk if their parents have the condition. How we actually use our eyes seems to play a decisive role. For example, activities like focusing on a screen, whether that be a compute

16、r, television or smartphone, are tough on our eyes. Reading in poor light can also harm our eyesight. It is also harmful to spend too much time indoors, as our eyes need natural sunlight to be healthy.Luckily, the situation could be improved if we take measures to stop ourselves becoming short-sight

17、ed in the first place. We should take regular breaks from our study and go outside to give our eyes a chance to get some sunlight. We should also avoid sitting too close to a computer, smartphone or television screen. In addition, we should ensure proper lighting whenever we read, so that our eyes do not need to work too hard.
