This text is not only an extension of target language including the vocabulary about physical appearances, but it can also help foster some reading strategies for Ss such as inferring with the help of the context.Classroom teaching objectives are the soul

3、 and the key of a class, the design of them is the premise and guarantee of the efficient classroom teaching activity. Teaching aims:1. Ss can read and recognize the key vocabulary such as “criminal, crime, medium”,ect. They can read and understand the text introducing the job of police artist which

4、 involves describing physical appearance.2. Ss can tell the different meanings of demonstrative proverbs with the help of the context.3. Ss can appreciate the importance of being able to describe physical appearances. They can also be inspired to attach more importance to inner beauty. Teaching key

5、and difficult points:1. Ss can read and understand the reading text.2. They can appreciate and grasp the strategy of inferring with the help of the context. 2. Analysis of the StudentsThe importance of reading needs no further explanation. And the difficulty faced by Ss when doing reading cant be ov

6、erlooked either. The main factors that contribute to the rather high level of difficulty felt by Ss may be as follows: poor vocabulary and grammar; long sentences and most importantly, lack of interest in reading. Therefore, in my class I will come up with a lot of interesting and meaning activities

7、 to help Ss enjoy the process of reading.3. Teaching and learning methodsThe new curriculum standard puts such in the first place as “cultivating students interest in learning English, building self-confidence, developing good habits of autonomous learning” to boost teaching and learning efficiency.

8、 Therefore, I will guide students from the following aspects.(1) Using question-leading method to stimulate students enthusiasm and interest in participating in class activities;(2) Using audio visual method to help students understand the words and phrases one by one. While grasping the main idea o

9、f the dialogue, students can figure out its detailed information;(3) Using communicative method to not only help the students make a better understanding of the dialogue by talking with others but also help to exercise their ability of language expression as well as to improve their spoken English;(

10、4) Using practice-consolidation method to enable students to use what they have learned flexibly.Now come the most important part of my presentation- teaching procedures. 4. Teaching ProceduresLead-in is the first step of classroom teaching and plays a rather important role since the quality of it d

11、etermines how well Ss can be drawn to the following classroom teaching. Step 1 Lead-inWhos got the best memory?First I will present a picture of a group of people standing in a horizontal line. Later I will remove the picture from the screen very quickly. Ss need to describe the third person from th

12、e right. Some Ss might have a quite good memory and give a vivid description. For instance, the third person is a man of medium height. He has short curly hair, a round face and a big mouth. Then I will introduce the new job to them. Step 2 Pre-readingPredicting.Ss will be asked to look at the title

13、 and the text-based picture, working in pairs and try to guess why the job is interesting and what things police artist usually do.Step 3 While-readingFirst, I will ask Ss to read the first paragraph and deal with the question raised in the part pf pre-reading. Then I will further ask them “do you t

14、hink it is a difficult one or easy one?”. Next, I will ask Ss to read the second paragraph and hopefully Ss can get that being a police artist is sometimes difficult because “”People dont always see things the same way so they may describe the same person differently”. Then Ss are guided to do “Read

15、, look, and tick”. Here I will ask Ss toy read the last several sentences. Then they need to look at the three pictures of different people presented on the screen and tick the real criminal according to the given description. Later, some minutes will be devoted to the learning of the pronouns. Ss c

16、ircle all the pronouns that they dont understand appearing in the text such as “he, it, him, this, they, he” and I help point out that they can identify what each pronoun refers to according to the context. Step 4 Post-readingRetellIn this step, I will create a situation. Suppose they are Joe Brown.

17、 How can they introduce their job to others? They need to include such following things into their introduction as the name of the job, the responsibility along with the job, the difficulties in doing the job and how they think of their job. They can introduce their jobs with the help of the key wor

18、ds on the blackboard. The purpose is to help them further grasp the target language and improve their language using ability. Step 5 SummaryI will encourage my Ss to summarize what they have learnt from the text. They are supposed to say they learn the interesting job of police artist and how to und

19、erstand the demonstrative pronouns according to the context. Meanwhile, I will remind Ss of the importance of being able to give a detailed and correct description of physical appearance. In addition, I will ask Ss the question “Doyouthinkthegoodlookisthemostimportantthing?” so as to point out that

20、we should not be over concerned about outer beauty. Instead, we should pay more attention to inner beauty. Dont judge others by their outer look. The reason why Ss summarize by themselves is to check whether they have grasped the target language points.
