Mozartwasafascinatingmusicianandcomposerwhosefamecontinuestogrowmore

thantwocenturiesafterhisdeath.HewasborninSalzburg,Austria,in1756.Beforethe

ageoffour,hehadshowngreatmusicaltalent.Hisfatherthendecidedtolethimstarttaking

harpsichordlessons.Theboy'sreputationasamusicaltalentgrewfast.Atfive,hewas

composingmusic.Formthattimeon,Mozartwasperformingnconcertsandwritingmusic.

Byhisearlyteens,hehadmasteredthepiano,violinandharpsichord,andwaswriting

symphoniesandoperas.HisfirstmajoroperawasperformedinMilanin1770,when

hewasonlyfourteen.Atfifteen,Mozartbecametheconductorforanorchestrain

Salzburg.In1781,heleftforVienna,wherehewasingreatdemandasbothaperformer

andacompositionteacher.Hisfirstoperawasasuccess.Butlifewasnoteasy

becausehewasapoorbusinessman,andhisfinanceswerealwaysinabadstate.His

musicfromthenextdecadewasnotverypopular,andheeventuallyfellbackonhis

teachingjobsforaliving.In1788hestoppedperforminginpublic,preferringonly

tocompose.Hediedin1791attheageofthirty-five.Althoughhelivedonlyashort

life,hecomposedover600works.

theprincipalofthesameschool,wroteasongtogetherforthechildren,entitled

“GoodMorningtoAll”.WhenMildredcombinedhermusicaltalentswithhersister's

knowledgeintheareaofkindergarteneducation,'GoodMorningtoAll“wassureto

beasuccess.Thesisterpublishedthesonginacollectionentitled“SongStories

oftheKindergarten”in1893.Thirty-oneyearslater,afterDr.PattyHillbecame

theheadoftheDepartmentofKindergartenEducationatColumbiaUniversity's

TeachersCollege,agentlemanbythenameRobertColemanpublishedthesong,without

thesisters5permission.Headdedasecondpart,whichisthefamiliar4<HappyBirthday

toYou”.Mr.Coleman'sadditionofthesecondpartmadethesongpopularand,finally,

thesisters“originalfirstpartdisappeared."HappyBirthdaytoYou“hadaltogether

replacedthesisters,originalsong“GoodMorningtoAll”.In1916Pattytooklegal
