Forthestudy,researcherssurveyed488Midwesterncollegestudents.About40%ofthestudentswereidentifiedaspickyeaters.Andabout65%ofthoserespondentssaidtheyatefewerthan10foods.“Weaskedparticipantstojusttelluswhatchallengesaroundpickyeatingtheymighthavehadoranybenefitstheymightsee,andpeopleanswereddifferentlyintermsofwhathasaneffectonthem,”saidco-authorLaurenDial,adoctoralstudentatBowlingGreenStateatthetimeofthestudy.
Manyrespondentsindicatedthey’deatlessornotatalloutsidethehome.One19-year-oldmansaidhe’ddrinkwaterhalfthetime“duetomypickyeating”,accordingtothestudy.Another18-year-oldsaid,“SometimestherearesomeawkwardcommentswhenIameatingwithmygirlfriendandherfamily.”A23-year-oldwomansaidherparentswouldgetfrustratedatherrefusaltotrythefoodsshewasserved.
