Overthoseyears,manycollegestudentshadsomeemploymentproblems.Theyalwaysthoughtit’samostimportantchoiceforthem.Wewitnessedarapiddevelopmentinindustry,agriculture,scienceandtechnologyinChina.Butthepressureishugeforthematthesametime.Sowethinkit’snecessarytoresearchthisproblem,andit’smeaningfultofindwhatisthestudentsemploymenttendency.
Mystudy
AtfirstIcheckedsomeinformationfromsomebooksandelectedsomequestionswhichthesocietyfocuson.AndIfoundsomeoldquestionnairesontheinternet.ThenIcollectedthesequestionnaires,summarizedstatisticsandatlastImadeoutourform.WhatImostwanttoachievefromthisinvestigationaretheemploymenttrendsofcollegestudents,themethodstheyoftenadoptwhentheyfaceemploymentpressureandifthereexistsobviousgenderdiscriminationwhencompanieschooseemployees.
Limitation
MostofmyfriendswhoIaskedthemtodothequestionnairesareEnglishmajorstudents,maybetheywillconsiderabouttheirmajorwhentheydothisquestionnaires.Soitmaycannotstandforallthecollegestudents.
Method
Firstly,Imadequestionnairesinthecomputerconcernedwithemployment.ThenIdistributedthemtoourmyfriendsandclassmates.Aftertheyfinisheddoingthem,Itookthembackandgetconclusionfromtheiranswers.

3.Whichpartisthemostattractiveonewhenyoufindjobs?
2.2Theparticipants
Ourmajorparticipantsaresophomoreandjuniorstudentscomingfromelectricalengineeringandbusinessadministrationandalittlepartfromfreshman.Theaverageageofthestudentsistwentyone.It’soldenoughforthemselvestodecidewhattheywilldoorwhattheywanttobecomeinthefuture.30%ofstudentsfromelectricalengineeringarefemale,and70%aremale.74%ofstudentsfrombusinessadministrationarefemale,and26%aremale.
2.3Ourdetailprocedures
Firstwehavedeterminedourmajoritemsofourquestionnairemanyweeksago,andtherearethreemajoritemsofthequestionnaire.Thefistoneiswewanttolearnstudents’employmenttrendsofShandongUniversity.Theseconditemiswhatstudentswanttoachievefromuniversityandtheirfuturecareer.Andthelastoneiswhataddsstudentsemploymentpressure.Thequestionnaireweremadeandmodifiedbyourgroupandtherewerealsoafewquestionsweextractedfromtheinternet.
Weadministeredquestionnairesatthetwelfthweek.Mostofthemwerefinishedinclassroom,buttherewerealsosomefinishedindormitoryandonline.Beforeweaskedthestudentsansweredthequestionnaires,wehadstressedthattheymustanswerthemhonestly,unlesswewouldcanceltheirquestionnaires.Andweindeedfoundsomestudents’questionnaireswerenotuptoourrequirement,sowedidwiththemaswehadtold.
Wefinallycollected133effectivequestionnaires.
2.4Dataanalysis

Fromtheresultofthissurvey,50%ofstudentsofelectricalengineeringchoosingthismajoraremostlyforthereasonofgoodjobopportunity.Onthecontrary,studentsofbusinessmanagementengineeringmoretendtopotentialemploymentandtheirinterest.Nearlyallthestudentsofbothmajorsarecontentoftheirlearningsubjects.Whenreferringtotheirfutureemploymentexpectations,moststudentshopetheirjobwillbemoresuittotheirmajor,andtherearealsoafewpeoplepreferringamorechallengingjob,becausetheymorevaluetheirabilitynomatterwhattheywilldointhefuture.
Aftergraduation,moststudentswillchoosetocontinuetheirstudiesordirectlygotowork,veryfewstudentschoosetostartabusinessorstudyabroad.ThesophomoreandjuniorstudentsoftheSchoolofElectricalEngineeringandtheSchoolofManagementwhocontinuetheirstudiesanddirectlygotoworkareaccountedforabout50%,buttheproportionofmanagementoffreshmenwhochoosetocontinuestudyingreach85%.Butforthesophomoresmayhaveadesiretosociety,sothepercentageofstudentswhochoosetocontinuetostudydecline.Althoughnofreshmenofelectricalengineeringpolled,Weconcludethatproportionoffreshmenofelectricalengineeringwhochoosetocontinuetheirstudyaftergraduationwouldbehightoo.Andtothosewhochoosetofurtherstudy,mostofthemthinkhighlyeducatedfortheirprofessionalwillhavegreatinfluence.Ofcoursethereasonwhymanystudentsgotogetamasterdegreeisfortheloveofthisprofessionalandhopetogetmoreprofessionalknowledge.Fewpeoplethinksoftheirprofessionalprospectisbad,andonlytogotograduateschooltogethighereducation,cantheygetabetterjob.
Accordingtothechartabove,careerstability,jobprospects,salaryandjobinterestarethecommonthingsstudentsconsideringinemployment.Whenweinvestigateintentionofemployment,studentsofelectricalengineeringmoretendtochoosestate-ownedenterprises,and21%feellikechoosingscientificresearchinstitution.Butwhenwelookbackatthemanagementmajor,wearesurprisedtheyalmostdifferfromourmajor.Morethanhalfstudentsofthemajorwillgotoprivateenterprisesorsino-foreignjointventures,thereisalsoalargepartdecidingtostarttheirownbusiness.Attheaspectofsalary,studentsofbothmajorwillrequestahighpaymentofmorethan5000¥permonth.Becauseofthepotentialofopencoastalcitiesandgoodlivingsituations,peoplemoretendtochoosetoworkinthere,andtherearealsoafewpeoplechoosetointernationalcities,suchasBeijing,ShanghaiandShenzhen.Onlyalittlepartwillcomebacktosmallcitiestorepaytheirhometown.
Ithaslongbeenaproblemthatwomenhaveseriousdiscriminationinprofession.It’scommonthatmenhavemoreadvantagesinfindingjobs,especiallyintechnologicalcollege,suchascollegeofElectricalEngineering.Andincollegeofmanagement,60%offreshmenthinkmenaremucheasiertogetajobthanwomenintheirmajor.What’smore,thereare90%ofsophomoresholdingthesameview.It’sunfairthatwomenaretoughtobeemployed.Andthereareotherproblemsabouttheemploymentofgraduates.
Morethanahalfstudentsthinkgraduateshavetoohighexpectationsoftheirprofessiontoaccepttheordinaryjob.
Thereareabout50%studentsholdingthethoughtthatsomecompanieshavesohighstandardthatgraduatescan’tgetthejob.
Therestofthestudentsthinkgovernmentandschoolhavenotplayedanactiverole,whichdon’tofferenoughinformationtograduates.
Astoourstateencouragesgraduatestostarttheirownbusiness,morethan50%studentsthinkit’sachallengeandopportunitytoimprovetheirabilityandrealizetheirdream,fewhasneverthoughtofit.Sowecanseethatchallengingthemselvesismorepopularwiththeyounggeneration.
Whenfacedwithemploymentpressure,30%studentswilllookforcomfortfromtheirfriendsorfamily,and30%ofthemwilltrytoworkhardtoaddtheopportunityoffindingagoodjob,fewpeoplewillpouroutpressuretotheircoacherorclassmates.Whatwecangainfromthedataisthatontheonehandcollegestudents’abilityofsolveproblemsisimproving,butontheotherhandwecan’tdenytheymuchmorebelievetheirfamilycomparingwithclassmatesandcoacher.Buttheyforgetwhenincollegethemosthelpfulpeoplearejusttheirclassmatesandcoacher.
Moststudentssupposethemostusefulmethodstosolveemploymentproblemsarethatuniversitiescanprovidewithbetterguidanceandservicetowardemployment.Morespecifically,collegescanoffercoursesaboutcareersguidanceandplanning,collectandsettlesocialinformationofthetalentmarket,publishthepresentsituationofgraduatesandsoon.
Anotherusefulwaytosolvetheproblemofemploymentisthatweshouldvaluedevelopingourownability.Fromtheviewofstudents,theemploymentunitsmostcareofgraduates’syntheticabilityandprofessionalskills.Butinfact,itisnotrealityforemploymentunitstofindyoursyntheticabilityisgoodorbad,themosteffectiveofproveofyourabilityisyetyourgradeincollege.Soduringtheuniversity,weshouldnotonlypayattentiontoourowninterestandprofessionalskills,butkeepingagoodgradecanalsoaddthechanceofgettingagoodjob.
