WhenIhurriedtothestore,Isawthatthebookswerealreadybeingpackedintoboxes.IhadalongchatwithCasey,thestore'selderlyowner.Sighingdeeply,hetoldmehowitwasbecomingdifficulttorunanindependentbookstore.Mostyoungpeoplepreferredreadinge-booksontablets.Moreandmorecustomerswerebeingattractedbychainstoresandonlinediscounts.Itriedtothinkofsomewordsofsympathy,butIhadtoadmitthattheRainbowBookstorecouldn'tstayinbusinessmuchlonger.Nowreadthepassageandcheckyouranswer.3

(2)that引導(dǎo)賓語從句。Languagepoints2.Thebookstore,whichwasalegendaryfixtureintheneighborhood,wasaplacewhereanyonecoulddropinandconnectthroughtheirloveofbooks.這家書店是附近鼎鼎有名的地方,誰都可以進去轉(zhuǎn)轉(zhuǎn),通過他們對書籍的熱愛溝通交流。

(1)本句是主從復(fù)合句?!皐hich...neighborhood”是which引導(dǎo)的非限制性定語從句,先行詞為Thebookstore;“whereanyone...books”是關(guān)系副詞where引導(dǎo)的限制性定語從句,修飾先行詞aplace。

(2)dropin順便造訪,臨時拜訪dropinon+人順便拜訪某人dropinat+地點順便拜訪某地dropby順便拜訪dropback落后,落在后面dropoff打盹,打瞌睡dropout退出,脫離;退學(xué),輟學(xué)3.WhenIhurriedtothestore,Isawthatthebookswerealreadybeingpackedintoboxes.當我匆忙趕到書店時,我看到書已經(jīng)被裝箱了。

(1)“Signingdeeply”動詞的現(xiàn)在分詞短語作伴隨狀語,動詞sigh與邏輯主語he構(gòu)成主動關(guān)系;

拓展:動詞的現(xiàn)在分詞形式可在句子中作狀語,表示伴隨、原因、結(jié)果、方式、條件、時間等意義,此時,現(xiàn)在分詞的邏輯主語與句子的主語一致,且所表示的動作與句子中的謂語的動作同時發(fā)生。

(2)how引導(dǎo)賓語從句,it為從句的形式主語,其中的torunanindependentbookstore為不定式短語作真正主語后置。5.Mostyoungpeoplepreferredreadinge-booksontablets.大多數(shù)年輕人更喜歡在平板電腦上閱讀電子書。

(3)stayinbusiness維持營業(yè)7.Childhoodmemoriescamebacktomesoclearly,asiftheeventshadhappenedonlyyesterday.童年的記憶如此清晰地浮現(xiàn)在我的腦海中,仿佛事情就發(fā)生在昨天。asif引導(dǎo)虛擬語氣。當說話人認為句子所述的是不真實的或不大可能發(fā)生或存在的情況時,可以用asif引導(dǎo)的從句。從句中動詞的時態(tài)主要分為兩種情況:(1)如果從句表示與現(xiàn)在事實相反,謂語動詞用一般過去時。

e.g.Heactsasifheknewme.他表現(xiàn)得好像認識我似的。

(2)如果從句表示與過去事實相反,謂語從句用過去完成時。

e.g.HetalksaboutAntarcticaasifhehadbeentherebefore.

他談起南極就好像他之前去過那里一樣。8.Wespenthoursreading,seatedonthestore'soldbutcomfortablefurniture.我們坐在書店陳舊但舒適的椅子上看幾個小時的書。

(1)“seatedon...furniture”為過去分詞短語作伴隨狀語。

(2)seatvt.(使)就座;坐;能容納……人

n.座位seatoneself(使)就座takeaseat坐下takeone'sseat就座bookaseat預(yù)訂座位

(3)apieceoffurniture一件家具9.WhenIleftthebookstore,itwasbecomingcoldanddarkoutside.

當我離開書店時,外面變得又冷又黑。

when引導(dǎo)時間狀語從句。10.ItmademerealizethatthebookstoreandallthatOldCaseyhadgiventothecommunitycouldsoondisappearforgood.這讓我意識到,書店和老凱西為社區(qū)所做的一切可能很快就會永遠消失。

(1)本句是主從復(fù)合句?!皌hatthebookstore...forgood”是that引導(dǎo)的賓語從句,作realize的賓語;該賓語從句中包含一個that引導(dǎo)的限制性定語從句,先行詞為all,all(指物時)為不定代詞,其后的定語從句一般用that而不用which引導(dǎo)。

附近,顧客們在貨架前仔細地挑選著文具、海報和其他暢銷主題的禮品?!皊elling...gifts”作后置定語,修飾名詞shelves,sell與shelves之間為主謂關(guān)系。14.Thelargeboardinthecornerhadbeenreplacedbyabigscreen,wherecustomers'commentsonthemonth'sbest-sellerwerebeingdisplayed.

角落里的大板子被一個大屏幕所取代,屏幕上顯示著顧客對本月暢銷書的評論。
