In2019,officialsofAmsterdam'sRijksmuseum,wherethepaintinghasbeendisplayedsince1808,decidedto

recreatethemissingparts.Tohelpthemwiththerestoration(修復(fù)),theteam,ledbythemuseum'sseniorscientist,

RobertErdmann,turnedtoanewAIalgorithm(算法).CalledConvolutionalNeuralNetworks,ithelpscomputers

figureoutwhatimagesmayhaveoncelookedlike.Thescientistsscannedhigh-resolutionimagesoftheoriginal(原作)

andLudens'paintingtothecomputer.TheAIwasabletostudyandcorrectthepainting'sperspective.Italso

recognizedtheexactcolorsusedbytheDutchmasterandcouldevencopyhisbrushstrokes.

The“missing“partswereprintedandmountedtothepainting.Theleftsideincludedtwomenwatchingtheevent

andayoungboyrunningawayfromthemilitia.Adrummerandabarkingdogwereaddedtothepainting'srightside.

TheAIhelpedthemuseumreproducethebestpossibleversionofthemissingpieces.ButTacoDibbits,director

oftheRijksmuseum,thinksthattheoriginalmissingpartsarestillaroundandwillbereturnedtothemuseumsome
