studentsareinvitedtoevaluatethejobperformanceoftheirteachers.Inmost

cases,studentsgetevaluationformsattheendofasemesterandareaskedto

fillthemoutanonymously.Therearevariedopinionsamongteachersand

universityauthoritiesaboutthiseducationalreform,program.University

administratorsconsiderstudentevaluationtobeaneffectivemeansto

disciplineteachersandhelpenhancetheteachingquality.However,many

teachersfeeluncomfortable,evenresentfulaboutit,becausedifferent

studentsmayhavedifferentstandardsbywhichtojudgetheirteachers.In

problemsmayarisecorrespondingly.Forinstance,somestudentsmaybetoo

criticalaboutacertainprofessorjustbecausetheprofessorisnotfunorheis

toostrict,whichmighthaveanegativeimpactontheimpartialityof

evaluationitself,misleadingthereform,orientation.

5.AbilityandGoodLooksOldpeopleusuallytellyoungpeoplethatthey

shouldnotjudgepeoplebytheirappearance.Thatmeansappearanceisless

importantthansayability.Indeedwe'veseensomanybrilliantpeoplewho

arenotgood-lookingatall.Inthefilm"Mozart"anoperasingerreiteratesthis

viewbysaying:"Forawomanoftasteitisnotthelooksbutthetalentthat

interestsus."Forherthepreferenceshowsone'staste.Nowadayshowever

thingsaremuchdifferentinthejobmarket.Withmoreandmoreinterviewers

puttingemphasisonthelooksortheappearanceofthejobapplicantsalotof

peoplecometotheconclusionthatappearanceismoreimportantthanability.

Manybeautifulgirlsacquireverygoodpositionsalthoughtheydon'thave

muchtalent.Inmyopinionabilityisdefinitelymuchmoreimportantthan

goodlooksnotonlybecauseabilitycomesfromeffortswhilegoodlooksare

bornbutalsobecauseabilityisthemostimportantfactorthatdeterminesa

person'svalue.GoodlooksarepleasantbutifIhavetomakeachoicebetween

themI'llchooseabilitybecauseitprovesmyvalue.AbilityandGoodLooks

Oldpeopleusuallytellyoungpeoplethattheyshouldnotjudgepeopleby

theirappearance.Thatmeansappearanceislessimportantthan,say,ability.

womanoftaste,itisnotthelooks,butthetalentthatinterestsus."Forher,the

inthejobmarket.Withmoreandmoreinterviewersputtingemphasisonthe

looks,ortheappearanceofthejobapplicants,alotofpeoplecometothe

conclusionthatappearanceismoreimportantthanability.Manybeautiful

girlsacquireverygoodpositionsalthoughtheydon'thavemuchtalent.Inmy

opinion,abilityisdefinitelymuchmoreimportantthangoodlooks,notonly

becauseabilitycomesfromeffortswhilegoodlooksareborn,butalso

becauseabilityisthemostimportantfactorthatdetenninesaperson'svalue.

Goodlooksarepleasant,butifIhavetomakeachoicebetweenthem,I'll

chooseabilitybecauseitprovesmyvalue.

6.ENERGYSHORTAGE:HOWTOSOLVEITChinawassweatingalot

overthelastsummernotonlybecauseofthecontinualheatwaves.Lackof

coalandoilalsoresultedinapowershortage.Accordingtonewsreports

manycitieshadtorestrictthepowerusageforairconditioningand

illuminationandthousandsofmanufacturersinShanghaihadtoreschedule

theirproductiontoeveningsorweekends.Asitisenergyhasbecomeoneof

thebiggestproblemstheworldisfacedwithtoday.Manyscientistsand

economistspointoutthatournaturalresourcesareverymuchlimited.Ifwe

keepconsumingourresourcesatthepresentratetheywarntheworldwill

soonberunningoutofoilcoalandmetalsandthiswillcertainlyleadtoa

seriousenergycrisisthreateningmankind'ssurvival.Themajorityofthe

world'speoplehaverespondedwithaclamorformorestrictconservationof

ournaturalresources.Thisisurgentlynecessaryindeed.Itmustberealized

thatmuchofourenergyintheformofoilcoalgasorelectricityhasbeen

wantonlyconsumed.Ifthingsgoonlikethatwewilleventuallyleaveforour

descendantsadevastatedworldavaststretchofwasteland.Sofromnowon
