This lesson is a reading material about robots.It is focused on the predictions of our future life.Students analysis1. Students of Grade8 have more than one years English learning.2. Students of Grade8 are creative,full of imagination and interested in new things.3. Its hard for them to focus their attention on the class.4. Its easy for them to give up when they face difficulties.Teaching objectivesLanguage objectivesMaster the key vocabulary of this unit.Knowledge objectives1. Students can learn and master new words,phrases and sentences.2. Enlarge their knowledge about robots.3. Get more reading skills.Ability objectives1.Listening to the tape after finishing reading the passage to pay attention the pronunciation.2.Enable the students to talk about if they will have their own robots in the future based on the passage.3.Enlarge their knowledge about robots and get more reading skills:Making predictions(scanning/skimming).4.Practice writing skills according to the sentences learned by reading this article.Moral objectives1. Improve the studentsunderstanding of the importance of the science.2. Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it.3.As long as you keep trying,your dream will come true.Strategy objectivesDevelop studentsreading ability by scanning,skimming and so on. Key points and difficulties1.Key points: New words,expressions and some important sentences.Students can understand the robots shape and function.According to the title ,students can infer the content of the article.2.Difficulties:Summarize the main idea of each paragraph.Analysis the structures of some difficult sentences.Use the reading skills to finish the tasks.Teaching procedureStep1.Lead-in1.Please watch a short section of the movie and answer the following questions:Q1: What will the robots look like in 2035?(Humans)Q2: What will the robots do in 2035?They will talk to people.They will help look after the pet dogs.They will clean up the rubbish.They will help carry the shopping bags.They will cook meals.2.All in all,the robots will do the same things as us. 3.What else do you think the robots will do in the future?They will look for people inside the buildings.They will play soccer.Purpose:To stimulate studentsinterest and focus studentsattention to the class.At the same time lead in todays topic.Step2.Pre-readingFrom the title and the picture,can you tell what the passage may talk about?Permeate the reading skill at the same time.Purpose:To develop the ability of predicting what the passage is talking about according to the title and the information appeared in the reading material including the pictures.Step3.SkimmingReading the first sentence of each paragraph,finish the tasks.Permeate the reading skill at the same time.Purpose:To develop the skills of skimmimg.And let students read with tasks to improve their reading ability.Step4.Careful readingPermeate the reading skill at the same time.Task1.Listen to the record. Answer the two questions.Then read Para1 together.Task2.Listen to the record. Complete the sentences about what robots can do now.Then read Para2 together.Task3.Listen to the record .Find that different scientists have different ideas.Then read Para3 together.Task4.Listen to the record.Decide true or false.Then read Para4 together.
