He has the fastest 100-meter time (10.17) in the country this year. 1 .I always loved watching football, and I started playing it when I was nine. 2 . I knew I was fast, so I joined my schools track team in the ninth grade. 3 .When I go to places and little kids recognize me, it makes me happly, because now I am a role model.I am most proud of winning the state championship for track twice.I love both football and track. But football is my first love. 4 . The answer has changed over the years. Two hundred years ago, you were old at 35. 1 In 1950, 70-year-olds were really old. Today, a healthy 70-year-old is still thought young.So, how old is old? The answer is one youve heard many times, from all kinds of people. “You are as old(or young) as you feel. 2 . You body tells you how well youve lived.“Nobody grows old by living a number of years,” wrote a writer. “People grow old when they dont have their ideals.”People shouldnt have the wrong ideals about aging. 3 .Alice Brophy once said, “It makes me unhappy when people say, You look young for your age. What does that mean? 4 .A: You know you can die old at 30 and live young at 80.B: You age simply tells you how many years you have lived.C: At the beginning of the 20th century, the average life span was 45.D: Sometimes, older mins can be as bright as young minds.E: Most older people are unhealthy and poor1 2 3 4 Unit 3Once there were two mice. They were friends. One mouse lived in the country; 1 . After many years the Countr mouse saw the City mouse, he side, “Do come and see me at my house in the country.” So the City mouse said, “This food is not good, and your house is not good. Why do you live in a hole in the field? You should come and live in the city. You would live in a nice house made of stone. You would have nice food to eat. 2 The Country mouse went to the house of the City mouse. It was a very good house. Nice food was set ready for them to eat. But just as they began to eat they heard a great noise. The City mouse cried, “Run! Run! The cat is coming!” 3 .After some time they came out. When they came out. When they came out, the Country mouse said, “ 4 . I like living in my hole in the field because it is nice to be poor and happly than to be rich and afraid.”A: They ran away quickly and hidB: the other mouse lived in the city.C: I do not like living in the city.D: You must come and see me at my house in the city.E: The Country mouse wanted to live in the city, too.1 2 3 4 Unit 4Many people like to eat mushrooms. The mushrooms are often sold in the stores. _1_ While some people enjoy picking mushrooms in the wild, but they should be very careful, because some toadstools(毒菌)are poisonous even if they look safe to eat.When my friend and I returned to our cabin after a day of bird hunting, he suggested we pick the mushrooms growing around there and fry them with the steaks we brought. _2_After we picked the mushrooms, I went to cook dinner. It smelled very good, and we started to eat.While I was eating, I said to my friend, “Im sure you know about mushroom, Henry.” “I thought you were the expert,” he said, putting down his fork. “I dont tell a mushroom from a toadstool.” _3_. And then it went out. When we went outside later, we found that the dog was lying there dead._4_We went to the nearest hospital in the town in a hurry. The doctor there pumped our stomachs. We didnt get back until the next morning. Then a man came to our door. He said his car had hit a dog the night before. Its leg was hurt, but it went away in our direction before he could get to it. Since the bicycle is not expensive, it is affordable by the average Chinese families. Second, China has a large population and the traffic is heavy. _2_ A road which can only allow two cars to pass may allow more than ten bicycles to run side by side. Finally, people enjoy riding a bicycle to school, to work and on outing. It is so pleasant and the exercise is good for peoples health. _3_. For example, a bicycle is not fit for a long distance trip. A person who sits all day long in a car might get fat and unhealthy, while a person on a bicycle may gain good health and pleasure. The bicycle is popular in China and it will remain so for a long time to come. Many things must change before cars became common in China. _4_ A. Therefore, in the foreseeable future, the bicycle will still be welcome.B. The bicycle is the most common means of transport in our country.C. People who dont ride a bicycle might get fat and healthy.D. The bicycle has the advantage of being small in size.E. The Chinese drink it at any time of the day at homes or in teahouses. _2_ Tea is also important in Japan. The Japanese have a special way of serving tea called a tea ceremony. It is very old and full of meaning. _3_. There is even a special room for it in Japanese homes.Another tea-drinking country is England. In England, the late afternoon is “teatime”. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. _4_ In summer, many Americans drink cold tea“iced tea”. Sometimes they drink iced tea from cans, like soda.A. They prefer their tea plain, with nothing else in it.1 2 3 4 Unit 7As young children, many of us like playing all kinds of games with our friends. Do you know anything about playground games? They mean games played on the playground. _1_ I often play games like Tag or Hide-and-seek with kids from the neighborhood. Each time we played these games, we enjoyed ourselves a lot._2_ It will be more fun with lots of people. Before the game, a child will be picked out from all the players as the tagger. The tagger is the one who runs after and try to catch the others. At the beginning of each round, the tagger will count numbers from one to ten, giving the others a chance to run away from him in all directions. _3_. As soon as the tagger finishes counting, he will run after the others and begin his chase. The child caught or tagged by the tagger will be the next tagger to continue the game.We also play games like Hide-and-seek. Hide-and-seek is hard at first but gets easier later.
