Go for it 八年級上Unite 6 Im More Outgoing Than My SisterAims and requirements:(1) Develop the students listening skills, teach them to grasp the key information during listening.(2) Learn to understand and use the comparative degree of adjectives .(3) Try to master the new words and phrases such as: athletic, serious and so on. Teaching contents:Go For It Book 2A Unit 6 Im More Outgoing Than My Sister Teaching key points and difficulties:(1) Learn to get key information while listening.(2) Master the comparative degree of adjectives, such as: funnier, more athletic, taller and the like.Lesson type: Listening.Teaching methods: Audio-lingual Method and Communicative Approach. Teaching aids: a multi-media computer, a tape recorder and a slide.Teaching procedures:Step 1 Greeting and revision ( 4 minutes )T: Good morning, boys and girl! Im very gald to see you again. Now, who can tell me what we learnt yesterday?S1:T: Right, sit down, please. We learnt some expressions used to invite others to take part in your party and how to accept and refuse the invitation politely. And I also let you prepare a dialogue about this topic. Remember? Now, whod like to have a try? Please come to the front and show yourself.Ss: (volunteers)T: Thank you. And the rest of you are the audience, any problem? Ss: ( they act the dialogue that theyve prepared out )Step 2 Lead-in activity ( 6 minutes )T: From their performance, we know Susan will have a big Birthday Party and she invited lots of friends to celebrate with her. Do you think they will have a good time? Ss: Yes. T: If you are preparing your own birthday party and you decide to invite a pair of twins in the following film fragment. How can you tell them from one another ? Now please watch the film fragment. (Show the Ss an interesting film fragment about a pair of twins)Ss: ( watch the film )T: Ok. After the film, well have a competition between girls and boys, which means who can find more differences between the twins will be the winners.Ss: ( Find many differences )T: Both girls and boys do very good job. And as the girls find 2 more differences than the boys, so the girls are winners.Ss: (clap)T: From the film we can see that Lily is tall while Lucy is short that is to say Lily is taller than Lucy. We also see Lucy is serious while Lily is funny, so we can say Lucy is more serious than Lily. ( Lucy and Lily are the names of the twins in the film fragment ) Well, these are what we should learn in this lessontry to describe differences between two people by using the comparative degree of adjectives. ( write down the new words while saying ) Now read the new words after me.Step 3 Listening ( 6 minutes )T: Now listen to the tape and finish exercise in 1a and 1b on page 31.Ss: ( listen to the tape)T: Whod like to share your answers with us?S2: ( give the right answers)T: Great!Thank you! Sit down pleased. Lets listen to the tape again and check his answering. Ss: ( listen to the tape again)T: So after second listening , are you agree with his answers? Ss: Yes. T: Very good! You are all right.Step 4 Play a game ( 3 minutes )T: As you are good at listening so I guess you can do well in describing people in your own words. Now lets play a game. In this part Ill ask a student to describe one of your classmates by using comparative degree and the rest of you to guess who he is. Who want to try first?Ss:Step 5 Listening(18 minutes )T: Good job! Lets turn back to our listening. Please turn to page 32, part 2again. Read the requirements quickly , then listen to the tape once and finish the exercise. You neednt to write the words once more , just do you work base on the words on the left. Are you clear? Ss: Yes.T: Fine. Now listen to the tape carefully.Ss: ( listen to the tape )T: OK! Have you got it? Ss: Yes. T: Good! So whod like to show your us opinions? Ss: ( Give the right answers )T: All right. Please listen to the tape twice more and try to finish the chart in 2. The first listening is for you to get the general meaning and make some notes, the second listening is for you to write down the key words. Please to the tape. Ss: ( listen to the tape )T: Have you done? Now, I want two volunteers to write their answers on the Bb.S3: ( make some mistake, such as “funnier” )T: OK. Lets check their answers together. Can you find any mistake? S4: I think we should say funnier not funnyer. T: Good! You should remember when we use comparative the degree of adjectives we generally put “er” at the end of the word, such as change “quiet” into “quieter”. But when the last letter of the word is “e” we just need to plus “r” to the word, such as change “nice ”into “nicer”. Well, while the word has more than 3 vowels we should put “more” before the word, for example: more serious. Besides, when meet words like “funny”, we need change “y” into “i” then plus “er” ,than is to say we should say funnier. Understand? ( I write the key point on the Bb while saying)Ss: Yes. (write down the notes on the Bb while listen to me)T: Who can use the rules weve learnt just now to make sentence according to the figure in 2c on page 32? I need volunteers.Ss:( some students make some sentences)T: ( make comments according to their performance)Step 6 Homework ( 3 minutes )T: Today we mainly learnt how to use the comparative degree of adjectives.
