The topic of this lesson is about volunteering and charity. In this class, students will learn how to offer help and volunteer to help others. The main idea of this lesson is to develop students reading skills and comprehensive communication.II. Analysis of the Students The students have already learned English for several years. They have learned a lot of vocabularies and they are interested in learning new knowledge. They are eager to learn new lesson. T he basis and the interest of the students are good for the teacher to teach this new lesson.III. Teaching Aims 1. Knowledge goals: To learn the new words: several, feeling, satisfaction, joy, owner, journey. To learn the usages of the infinitives.2. Ability goals: To learn to talk about how to offer help through reading a material.To learn to get some information about volunteers. To develop students reading skills and comprehensive competence. 3. Moral goal: Being a volunteer is helpful for ones future job.IV. Teaching Key and Difficult Points1. Teaching Key Points To learn the new words: several, feeling, satisfaction, joy, owner, journey. To learn the usages of the infinitives. Watch a video and know about the volunteers activities and ask “who are they?”3. Ask the students “Do you want to be a volunteer?”Have students watch the video and answer the questions.Cultivate students interest and get into the new lesson.Explain the reward system to students and encourage them.Step2. Pre-reading1. Do you the sign of Chinese Young Volunteer Association2. What is a volunteer?3. What could we do to help others?4. PredictionWhere is the boy and what job do you think the man next to him in the picture does? What about the girl in the second picture? Have students answer the questionsHave students look at the pictures in the book and make a prediction.Introduce some background knowledge to help students understand volunteering and charity better.Let students get the main idea of the article quickly. Step3 While-reading1. Read the article quickly and check the main idea.2. Find the topic sentence(中心句)of each paragraph.3. Read paragraph two and answer the questionWhat does Mario volunteer to do?Why does Mario volunteer to help others?What does he say about volunteering? 4. Read paragraph three and answer the question.What does Mary volunteer to do ?Why does Mary volunteer to help others?What does she say about volunteering? 5. Listen and read the article word by word. Underline the useful expressions, and discuss with your partner.Ask students to skim the article and answer the questions. The students read the article quickly and get the information, then check the answers.Have students read the article carefully and find out the important and difficult phrases.These activities can make students hold a deeper understanding of the passage. This activity develops students abilities of listening Step6 Post-reading1.Use infinitives (不定式) to complete the sentences below.2.Discuss and retell the article Students complete the sentences in 3c alone according to the article.Check the answers and tell them the usages of infinitives in each sentence.These activities help students improve their ability of speaking English.Step7 Summary and moral teaching1. Ask students to summarize what they learned in this class.2. Being a volunteer is great.3. Ask students sign their names on the “red heart” and write what they can do to help others.Students discuss in group and sign their names on the “red heart”.Let students write about what they can do to help others and make a summary about what they learned.
