Both in the past and at present, women contributed to world culture in many different ways. There are women writers, educators, scientists, heads of state, politicians, civil rights crusaders, artists, entertainers, and others. 2.Show some pictures of women for students to guess who they are and then talk about them.1).She was a Quaker. She helped improve prison conditions and gave prisoners work and education. Her work helped the Quakers get the Nobel Peace Prize in 1947.2).She was a doctor who became a specialist in womens illnesses. She devoted all her life to medical work for Chinese women and children. Her work encouraged many other women to become doctors.3).She was a girl from the countryside who dressed as a man and went to fight for the French. She helped drive the English out of France. She was caught and put to death by the English.4).As a young girl, she always wanted to study animals. She went to Africa and studied chimps instead of going to university. Her research showed the connections between chimps and human beings. She works to protect chimps everywhere.5).She was Dr Sun Yat-sens wife, was one of the top leaders in modern Chinese history. She concerned herself with welfare projects, especially the China Welfare Institute for women and children.6).She helped found an International campaign to stop the making of landmines. She also hard to make worked as many countries as possible agree not to use them. She and her organization were given the Nobel Peace2.Have them discuss in pairs what they have in common and what makes them great and give their reasons.For reference: As great women , they dont care for themselves at all, and at some point or rather, they must give some sacrifices, just like Lin Qiaozhi, she devoted all her life to medical work for Chinese women and children and had not to have a family of her own. Instead, she made sure that about 50 000 babies were safely delivered to their mothers. Not all people can do this. Once they have chosen their careers, they would carry on with them without any withdrawal. What they did is encouraging thousands of people to continue their careers. Those who are only famous but not great cant be matched.Pre- reading(Discuss in groups of four)1. Let students discuss the following questions:Why do you think Jane Goodall went to Africa to study chimps rather than to university?Do you think she is right? Give your reasons. 2. Tom, who is your friend, should help you.4. with, along with, together with, as well as, besides, like, without, except, but, including 如果句子中有這些連接詞和主語連用,謂語動詞的數(shù)隨主語的變化而變化。例如:The teacher, together with his students, is planting trees in the street. 老師和他的學(xué)生們正在街道上植樹。就近原則1.either . or; neither . nor; not only . but also, whether.or在句子中連接主語的時候或者在there be句型中,謂語動詞要和就近的主語保持一致。Neither you nor I am wrong.
