Recommendation 3 Real World Design Challenge Authentic, industry-sponsored and humanitarian need-based design projects. (1-2 semester depth) 14 Recommendation 1 Improving Existing SPDCs - Action

8、s Improve Existing SPDCs while new models are developed: Transition Old Guard-sponsored competitions to a team- oriented approach. Develop individual oral technical presentation competition: 3 -5 minute presentations with industry and peer judging. Transition SDC an industry- or humanitarian-based c

9、hallenge, open to all SPDC participants, with no preparation required. Offer an array of professional development activities. Establish a core team to provide training & guidance to hosts plus a host reward program 15 Recommendation 2 Engineering Design Experience Replace current SPDCs with fewer, h

10、igher quality face-to- face events: 2 days, retreat or charrette based Target audience is students at all levels freshmen to seniors Two main competitions Design Review Competition “Real-Time Design Challenge” provided by Industry, humanitarian NGO, faculty or ASME No preparation - design challenge

11、revealed at the event Team-based Culminates in presentation to panel of judges Complementary Leadership and Professional Development activities 16 Recommendation 3 Real World Design Challenge Authentic industry-sponsored and humanitarian need based design projects. Collaborate with academia, governm

12、ent and industry to identify design challenges. Basic concept: Semester to one academic year in length/depth Menu of design challenges or students can use their own senior design project. 15、s Student Section Competition Update Winning sections will receive prizes for FY10 competition This competition is now phased out and is being replaced by Student Section Merit-Based Funding 19 Breaking ASME News Merit-Based Funding for Student Sections Background: The Student Sections Competition l

16、ost its corporate sponsor Declining participation MBF for sections has been successful Funding level about $30,000. (payouts TBD) Merit points awarded for: Meetings - 40% (Section meetings, socials, tours, service projects, etc) ASME participation - 35% (SLS 15%, SPDC 15%, HPVC 5%, etc.) Website - 1
