4、Beijing. The total number in China is less than 40. Most of them are from the China Guide Dog Training Center in Dalian, Liaoning province.Since 2006 the center has given 29 dogs to people with visual impairment. There are 70 dogs currently training to be guides.At the Dalian center it takes a year

5、to train a guide dog and costs up to 150,000 yuan ($23,600). The center relies largely on donations.Training a dog to work with a blind or visually impaired person typically takes a year,and then required every year for training, food and vet care.第3頁/共10頁Example But nowadays,the blind and their gui

6、de dogs are having some unfair treatment.There is an example .Chen Yan has been left blind from congenital cataracts, but Jenny came into Chens life in April 2011.Since then the 4-year-old black Labrador has accompanied Chen wherever she goes, from the supermarket to her piano store, or even her tra

7、vels around China. But Chen has also experienced hostile reactions to her guide dog, with Jenny denied access to buses, subways, parks, tourist sites and hotels.So far, Jenny has only been allowed on buses three times and on the subway once. All those times, they were accompanied by journalists and

8、a camera crew, thus putting pressure on the bus drivers and subway workers to let them in. Chen hopes the new regulations will contain detailed rules regarding guide dog access. She said similar requirements allowing guide dogs in public places had been written into earlier government regulations bu

9、t were poorly enforced. The Beijing government issued a special notice on the use and management of guide dogs during the Olympic and Paralympic Games, allowing them to serve in all playing fields and in public places. But it was just a temporary provision, valid until September 20, 2008. After that

In many countries, guide dogs and other types of assistance dogs are protected by law, and therefore may accompany their handlers most places tha

Laws and regulations vary worldwide: In the United States, the Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits any business, government agency, or other organization that provides access to the general public from barring guide dogs. In Brazil, however, requires allowance of guid

12、e dogs in all public and open to public places. In Canada, guide dogs are allowed anywhere that the general public is allowed. In South Korea, it is illegal to deny access to guide dogs in any areas that are open to the public. The World Guide Dog Federation is an international guide dog organizatio
