What s more,the limited profit and payment,the overusing and wasting of naturalresources,the environment pollution ,the low reputation of o
4、ur product both abroad and within our people s heart aredoing damage now, dragging our countryaway from from the chance of being a more abundant,more environment friendly,more well respected state.Yes,“ Made in China ” is confronting our country with very serious situations.Nevertheless, we are stil
5、l a country of great hopes ,we still have our own privileges. And all of these advantages earn usopportunities to climb out of the terrible future.Do you know why the first“ world,fatchteorByritain ”Empire,switched away from the simple manufacture? Finding their products were no enduring as Swiss,no

11、title of my speech today is crossing the sea. an englishpoet by the name of rudyard kipling once wrote in his poem we and they: all the people like us are we and everyone elseis theywe live over the sea while they live over the waywe eat pork and beef with cowhorn-handled knives they whogobble their
12、 rice off a leafare horrified out of their lives. when these lines first caught my eyes, i was shocked-how couldtwo peoples remainso isolated and ignorant of each other in the past? todays society, of course, isan entirely different picture. those people who used to eat with cowhorn-handled knives m
13、ight be very skillful in usingchopsticks, and those people who used to gobble their rice might be as well have taken to fish and chips. indeed, just takechina as an example: our modern life has been influenced bywestern style of living in so many ways that its no longer surprising to see teenagers g
14、oing crazy about rock-and-roll,whole families dining out at mcdonalds and even rather elderly people dressed in apple jeans. however, these are onlysome expressions of the cultural changes taking placein our society today. what is really going on is a subtle but significant restructuringof the natio
15、ns mentality. just look around. it is therefore evident that we as descendants of an ancient eastern civilizationare already living under strong inf1uence of the western culture. but it is not onlyin china that we find the incorporation of the two cultures. take the chinese acupuncture as another ex
16、ample: thistraditional treatment ofdiseases is finally finding its way to the west and hence the underlying notion thatillness is resulted from the imbalance between yin and yang within the body - anidea which would strike any westerner as incredible in the past! ladies and gentlemen, we live in a g
17、reat epoch when theglobal integration ofeconomy and the information revolution have brought cultures of the world closer than ever before. we live in a particularera when countries, east and west, find themselves in need of readjusting their traditional values. we live, at the sametime, at acritical
18、 juncture of our evolution because such problems as ethnic conflicts and regional uest are increasingly posing athreat to the peace and happiness of thewhole human race. to cope with such an era and to embrace an even brightertherefore, it is our sacred responsibility topromote the cultural exchange
19、s andhence the mutual understanding between china and the rest of the world.it is my happiest dream that the new generationof chinese will not only growup drinking coca-cola and watching hollywood, but also be blessed with thefar-reaching benefits of multiple cultures; benefits that our forefathers

22、妙而又有重大意 義的重建,大家只要看看周 圍就會清楚。 不久以前, 大學(xué)生 還只是束手空坐,等待政府 給他們分配工作 ;如今,又有多少大學(xué)生正在做充分準 備,為爭取任何工作機會而激烈角逐 ? 20 年前年 輕人還完全依靠父母 為他們安 排未來,今天又有多少年輕 人在急切地 尋求一種獨立的生活 ?試問今天參加演 講比賽的諸位, 誰不是 帶著志在一搏的心情來到 這里?誰不是 鐵下篇二: 21 世紀杯”全國英 語演講比賽演講稿 曹豐 our future: a battle between dreams and reality good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen
23、:when i was in theprimary school, i have a dream. i want to invent a device which could bring you from one place to another in no time at all.when i was in the secondary school, my dream was to study in my ideal university. and when eventually i got into theuniversity, my dream was to graduate.ladie
24、s and gentlemen, the reality is not real. it is a barrier keeping us fromall the possible fantasies. flying, for example, had been a dream to mankind for thousands of years. a hundred years ago,man could not fly was still regarded as the reality. now if that was really the reality, what did the wrig
25、ht brothers do? howdid some of you get to macau? only when we believe that the reality is not real can we soar with our dreams.people say that our future is a battle between the reality and our dreams. and if,unfortunately, mr. reality wins this war, then i see no future of mankind at all. aids will
26、 never be curable as this is the reality;people living in the undeveloped countries will suffer from starvation forever as this is the reality; 4)disputes amongdifferent countries would never be settled as this misunderstandings and intolerance is the reality. ladies and gentlemen,how many of you ha

31、s, have traveled to many other places beyond italy. no matter wherethese chinese people, chinese food, chinese products and many other chinese items are, they carry with them qualitiesthat are unique to our very own chinese culture - our traditional values. ladies and gentlemen, we must remember, th
32、etraffic of globalization is two-way.yes, films from hollywood, soccer from the united kingdom and restaurants from america, do have an impact on ourvalues. but, if we see globalization in china a synonymous term with western economic cultural hegemony, we areunderestimating the impact of not only g
33、lobalization but also our values. have a look at languages. yes, it is the desire anddream of every single chinese to speak fluent english, including every single one of us here. but, have you ever wonderedhow many non-chinese are learning chinese? let me tell you, by the end of 2002, nearly 30 mill
34、ion people from 85countries and regions were learning standard chinese, putonghua. and who knows about the number of people learningregional dialects such as shanghainese and cantonese. in these two years, i am sure none of us here willbe surprised that the number is skyrocketing. have a look at fen
35、g shui, within 0.21 seconds google brings you 1,270,000websitesabout feng shui, not in chinese, not from all over the world, but in english, just within the united states. and i guess someof you still remember, when the previous american president, bill clinton, first became president. he actually h
36、ad thefurniture of his office rearranged according to feng shui ideas. our values, language, our feng shui, our traditionalmedicine and also kung futhat i have not really talked about, are all parts and messengers of our culture and values. what does their success in thewest tell us? their popularit
37、y tells us that, alongside cheap consumer products, we are exporting to the west, chinesebeliefs and, values.ladies and gentlemen, globalization, yes it has its impacts on our values. it is sending our values overseas and bringing innew ones. lets not see the bringing in of new ones a threat to our
38、own culture. as a matter of fact, the bringing in is a verygood opportunity and time to rethink and reflect who we are and what we want to be. it is upon us whetherglobalizationhas a positive or negative impact on our traditional values. ladiesand gentlemen, i see this positively, i know even if our

40、e peoplehad always longed for a life depicted in traditional chinese paintings. those paintings present a harmonious coexistenceof people and other life forms. regarded as the essence of ancient chinese philosophies, harmony has beendeeply-rooted in the minds of the chinese people. on the one hand,
41、it has contributed to the unique continuity of chinesecivilization. on the other, chinese people became too much contented withtheir achievements to desire any furtherchanges. as globalization deepens, it is bound to affect our ideal of harmony. first, globalization urges china to speed upits modern
42、ization, which threatens our regard for the harmony between man and nature. for instance, many dams andhydropower stations are being built for economic benefits at the expense of thewell-preserved natural habitats. however,ecological malpractice of such kind goes against the notion of harmoniouscoex
43、istence in ancient chinese philosophies. more than 2,000 years ago, long beforethe concept of environmental protection came into being, dujiang weir, a greatirrigation project was built in southwestern chinas sichuan province. it succeededboth in controlling floods and in century-old chinese-style h
44、ouses are being demolished to make room forskyscrapers, shopping malls and eight-lane expressways. ladies and gentlemen, to conclude,i would like to quote from british philosopherbertrand russell. in contrasting chinese and western civilizations, he observed: thedistinctive merit of westerncivilizat
